Town Has Koosevelt-Garner
MANCHESTER, O. (UP) This
southwestern Ohio town has Its own
Roosevelt and Garner. Twin boys,
born to Mr. and Mrs. Henry Shlvely,
were named for the president and
vice-president.
An action alleging trespass, filed
by Hamilton H. Fox against Reed
Charley as a director of the Little
Butte Telephone Users association,
awaits ft hearing in Justice court.
There has been legal maneuvering
back and forth for two weeks.
The situation la highly Involved,
and concerns orders by the public
utility commission of Oregon, the ab
sorption of tne country phone line
by the Columbia River Public Utili
ties corporation, change In the by
laws and constitution of the Little
Butte Telephone Users association,
directors' meetings, the allegation
that Mr. Fox did not pay his tele
phone bill, and the alleged cutting of
the wires of the Fox phone.
The legality of one of the meetings
of the telephone users is also under
fire. The put-ic utility commission
orders were approved by a 3 1 -to-4
vote Fox and three others voting
against It, it Is alleged. Fox now
contends that no change In the by
laws, etc., are valid unless approved
by a two-thirds vote of all users, not
Just two-thirds of the users present
at ft meeting. The association has 38
users and i a ruraf itne.
The telephone directors claim that
Fox did not pay his assessments, and
It Is claimed that the hone wire was
cut, whereupon Fox is asserted to
have fixed it and resumed telephonic
communication with the world and
his neighbors. Fox claims cutting
the wire comes under the head of
trespass.
It Is also charged that the owner
of the place upon which Fox resides
instructed him to have the phone re
moved, which he did not do.
FREAK ALFALFA
M ORG ANTO WN , W. Va, (UP) A
freak variety of alfalfa, found on the
farm of Charles a. Ash ton, near
Moundavllle, is being studied here by
Russell R. Olat of the University of
West Virginia.
The unusual plant sends down ft
root farther than other varieties and
each etalk has its own roots. The
Ash ton plant has one main root, plus
an extensive root system from which
308 stalks were growing. As alfalfa
enriches soli by charging it with
nitrogen nodules, gleaned from the
air, Ash ton believes such a spread
ing root system would aid greatly la
soli upbuilding.
