candidate for governor and will
tackle It In altogether different way
we will pull through to success."
The party candidate lor governor,
Mr. Wirth, was Introduced and told
the gathering: "It la useless to tell
you how disappointed I am In the
number here tonight. I have several
of the dearest friends on earth, who
came In response to my Invitation. I
entered Into this after very careful
atudy, much thought and preparation.
Prosperity Plan Devised
I have devised a plan to throw
off the yoke of depression and lead
us back to the land of freedom and
plenty. X cannot fight thla alone. I
must have the support of the good
American people. We all know tha
almost everything la wrong, and why
do a few have to fight It alonet
"The road we have been traveling
for years Is leading to a pit, and we
are heading for It. It must be ended.
Thle can be ended with the ballot
box, lnatead of war and bloodahed,"
Mr. Wlrth declared.
Referring to the principles of the
party, the candidate said: "This will
bring ua Into our own. We have
right to live and let live. We
are only applying the Oolden Rule.'
He made reference to those In power
taking tne oread rrom your children a
mouths," and aald, "we must throw
off the yoke of tyranny.
Some People Hungry
1 can prove to you," he said,
"that people are going hungry In
this land of plenty. Are we able to
take car of ourselves In Oregon?"
He read an Associated Press dispatch
from Portland, published In the Malll
Tribune, which showed an Increase
deposit In the six Portland banks.
He quoted figures showing that 60,-

aid during the coming year and, ac
cording to Mr. Wlrth'a plan, the sur
plus bank deposit could be distrib
uted smong the needy families.
Mr. Wlrth told his listener that
the Increase wss made on the bank
accounts of only a few people. He
said that 8600 could keep a family a
yesr and If this surplus waa distrib
uted among the needy families, Ore
gon could take care of Itself. He
did not say how the Increased bank
deposit would be transferred to a
public fund.
Mr. Wlrth's plan, as explained last
evening, Is to take all persons off
relief, except the old and disabled.
He auggested changing the flow of
currency Into a fund to give perma
nent employment and relief to the
needy.
Right to Lite
"It la our natural birthright to
live, and live well," declared the
speaker. "I'm not radical on this. I
have had the 'brains' of the coast
consider this plan. No one will criti

put It over.' they aay. Keep faith
with the party and It will keep faith
with you."
He said he had been Invited to
hold this organisation meeting In
various part of the atate, but that
he had chosen the country dearest
to his heart Jackson county.
Mr. Wlrth's speech was applauded
and, when a rising vote was taken,
all present agreed to return next
week, with more supporters, In order
that the party organlztalon might he
