CONTROL TO LIE
IN CROP SUPPLY
WASHINGTON, July 6. (AP) Sec
retary Wallac told newsmen today
the farm administration's cattle buy.
lng program would adjust present
surpluses of beer cattle and that con
trol of hog production next year
would probably center on control of
feed crops.
"Many of our people feel that con
trol of feed supplies gives automatic
control of livestock production," he
said.
Buying of cattle Is being 'Move
tailed" with other plans of the ad
ministration, he added, and recent
rains in the drought area have not
changed the situation materially
from conditions early In the week.
when It was estimated by adminis
tration officials that 4,091,000 cattle
in 33 states must be moved Imme
diately for slaughtering or pasture
feeding In surplus feed areas.
Rains will make It possible to de
velop relief plans "In a little more
orderly fashion," he aald.
Buying of cattle with extension of
the program to Include sheep may
have to be carried beyond next
spring, the secretary said.
The administration announced that
freight rate reductions on livestock
and feed for the drought areas of
the mid-west, north central, south
western and western states have i
been extended to August 4.
