BOERS' CLASSIC
What waa cited by fans aa a bush
league classic was played yesterday on j
the Jacksonville diamond between i
Miners of that city and Medforcf s :
0 11 more Lions, with final score of 17- I
14 In favor of the J'vlltltes. It was
a hectic game cluttered with gran 1-
stand plays, foolish bobbles, four ,
home runs and a few arguments.
Scorin started first inning, when
four walks, one hit and a Miner error
netted Gllmore five runs. Miners
came back in their half with seven
runs on four hits, one walk and two
Gllmore errors. Though the score
was close, gold diggers maintained a
lead, knocking Alva Merrltt and Bob
Smith out of the box early In the
game. .Kenton, first sacker, finished
the last two innings on the mound
without being scored on. Turner and
Coffman twirled for J'vllle.
Bill "Screwball" Turner, former
Denver shortstop, showed fans how
he held his Job In the big leagues by
making a circus catch of a foul ball
while playing shortstop last half of
the game, while Dick Sakralda pre
ceded htm with a grandstand stop at
second base of a hard-driven ground
er. Peewee i Van Galder, tiny high
school second sacker working
for the Miners, received his share of
acclaim when he made an "Impos
sible" catch of a Texas leaguer to
complete a flashy double play.

JULY 9 FOR MAT
BOUT AT ARMORY
Inability of Promoter Mack Lll
lard to secure a suitable opponent fur
big Ted King Kong) Cox, Lodi. Cal..
ape-man, has again thrown a monkey-
wrench in the wrestling schedule here
Llllard had intended using Cox on
next Thursday's card, but announced
today that there will be no mat show
this week.
Giving local muscle mangling fans
the best break in some time, Llllard
revealed today that he has signed
"Dynamite" Ous Son nen berg, world
famous exponent of the flying tackle,
to headline a card here Monday, July
9 at the armory. The promoter ex
pects to sign Don Wagner, former 0.
S. C. football star, who pinned Chief
Little Wolf here two straight falls a
short time ago, as flonnenberg's foe.
Wagner is a huge, shifty wrestler and
should give Sonnenberg a real tussle,
In addition to the one-hour Son
enberg-Wsrncr set-to, Llllard hss
signed Louie Andrews, of Qreece rid
Ad Herman, of Germany for a 4tV
minute semi-final and Prof. Edward
Newton, of Salem and Rollln Warren.
Klamath Palls, in a thlrty-mlnute
curtain raiser.
Despite the big expense of bring
ing Sonnenberg here, there will be no
increase in general admission prices,
although ringside seats will be girea
a slight boost.
Oeorne Portr, newly appointed
Medford mayor, returned home list
evening from Reno. Nev., where ho
with other acattcr-gunners of this
vicinity, entered the Pacific Inter
national trapshootlng tournament last
wek. Porter brought back the In
