first-run showing of the Max Baer

After playing to capacity crowds
at the Craterlan theater Friday and
Saturday, It was decided to bring the
fight pictures to the Rialto theater
for an extra day. Taken at the ring
side in Madison Square Garden dur
ing the recent heavyweight cham
pionship bout, the fight pictures are
exceptionally clear in showing a
blow-by-blow account of the now fa
mous battle of the century.
"Such Women Are -Dangerous" has
Baxter aa a writer of romantic fic
tion, a debonair bachelor whose nov
els win him the adoration of women
of the country. However, when three
women decide to do more than wor
ship from afar, complications arise
that prove much more exciting and
romantically dramatic than the fic
tion he writes.

Little Shirley Temple, wno rose to
overnight popularity In 'Stand Up
and Cheer," Is now a full-fledged
star and her new picture, "Baby
Take a Bow," starts its Pacific
Northwest premiere showing at the
Craterlan theater tomorrow.
Not sliice the days of "The Kid,"
which brought Jackie Coogan to a
successful start in pictures, has there
appeared a child player who has met
with such tremendous acclaim as has
Shirley Temple, whose services are'
now being sought by all the major
studios in Hollywood.

UNDER NEW BILL
WASHINGTON, June SO. (AP)
President Roosevelt today approved a
bill liberalising laws covering com
pensation for World War widows and
orphans.
The president also acted upon the
farm mortgage moratorium and the
railway pension bills, but deferred
announcement of their disposition
until hs could prepare a statement
later In the day
Driving toward a cleanup of gov
ernment affairs, the president defi
nitely fixed his departure for his
Hawaiian cruise for late Sunday after
noon from Annapolis, Md.
Another day at the White House
gives htm opportunity to look over
more completely the personnel tor
the new stock exchange and commu
nications commissions.
The widows' snd orphans' measure
was passed shortly before adjourn
ment and had the approval of the
administration. Chairman Rankin (D.
Miss.) of the house veterans' com
mittee estimated It would cost the
government f4.000.000 annually. The
act applies to the widows snd children
of veterans who had a minimum 30
per cent disability rating, The
monthly rates are as follows:
Widow without child, aa; widow
with one child, 930; with $4 for each
additional child; one child without
a mother, $16; two orphan children,
aa equally divided: three orphan
children, $30, equally divided, with
3 for each additional child, the tota
amount to be equally divided.
The total compensation to any one
family group Is limited to $58 a
month. The payment to children Is
to be droppM at 31 years, provided
their education Is not completed be
fore they reach 31 years.
Widows who have remarried are not
allowed the compensation end those
who married veterans who died after
July 3. 1031, are not eligible to the
compensation.

miserly character of Hannah Bell,
phenomenal financier of thirty and
forty years ago, whose life was de
voted to .avenging a man . who had
jilted her in her youth to make
her son, Donny, the richest man In
America.

H. E. club met Wednesday after
noon at the home of Mrs. Hilda
Hague. Business session was conduct
ed by the president, Miss Velma Mc
Credle, with plans being discussed
concerning future activities.
Entertainment! (program consisted of
interesting historical contests led by
Miss McCredle. Miss Eula Benson
was declared prize winner, having cor
rectly answered all questions.
Refreshments of ice cream and
cake were served by Mesdames Agnes
Head, Mollle Wright and the hostess.

Patterson, Zura Mae McCredle, Betta
Lou Beebe, Agnes Head, Bertha Bur

Is New Owner of
Don's Radio Shop
Don's Radio Service, located at
433 East Main street, has been pur
chased by Woodson Smith of Port
land, according to Don Carter. Vic
tor Milnes, well known local radio
technician, will be associated with
Mr. Smith.
Both Smith and Milnes have bad
wide experience m radio repair and
designing. Mr. Smith was engaged
In radio servicing In Portland prior
to coming to Medford and has estab
lished an enviable reputation there
for high quality workmanship. He Is
a graduate of the National Radio
Institute. Mr. Smith and family In
tend to make Medford their perma
nent home. Vic Miles' has Just re
turned from Oregon City, where be
was In charge of a radio shop. He
was formerly with Don's Radio Serv
ice. The new owners of Don's Radio
Service plan to completely remodel
the testing laboratory, and install
the latest type equipment, Mr. Smith
says: "It will be one of the best
equipped radio service shops In
southern Oregon. We will handle the
American-Bosch all wave radios.
These new sets will receive foreign
stations consistently with London.

Paris Bomb Explodes
No damage resulted when Webster
Clark, of the Clark Dental labora
tories, allegedly exploded a plaster of
parls chemical "bomb" this morning
at 10:30 in the alley west of the Med
ford building.
Police report that the explosive was
lowered from a window of the labora
tories on the fourth floor of the Med
ford building by a light wire, and ex
ploded with electricity. A burned plaoe
on the pavement was the only sign of
the incident.
The remains of a "bomb" shell that
was reputedly set off In the same
manner last night at 0:30 were found
on the scene this morning. The at
tempt last night Is said to have re
sulted In but a slight explosion.
