After two months of action on for
eign fields, the Medford Rogues will
finally make their appearance before
a home crowd next Sunday when they
entertain the Shaw Bertram Lumber
Co. team at the Jackson county fair.

While Medford Will be attempting
to keep pace with OrsnU Pass and
Shaw Bertram to climb out the cel
lar, Ewauna will play host to Grants
Pass at Klamath Pails In a game at
Modoc field.

Henry Cotton, 27-year-old British
nrofesslonal. today won the British
open golf championship with a 73
hole aggregate of 283, tieing the record
for the tournament created In 1032
by Gene Saraaen.
After setting a record-breaking
pace for his first two rounds, with
a 67 and a 68, Cotton stuck hla third
round this morning In par 73, and
faltered on the final round, taking a
79. He missed a three-foot putt on
the final green in his bid to break
Saramn'a record, but his victory
nevertheleaa ended a 10-year winning
streak by Americans.

NEW YORK, June 29. (AP) One
accurate left hook today had won for
Tony Canzoneri another shot at Bar
ney Ross and a chance to regain the
lightweight championship.
That one hook raised a huge
"mouse" about Frankle Kllck's right
eye In the fifth round at Ebbets field
last night and eventually forced Ref
eree Patsy Haley to halt the fight In
the ninth and award Canzoneri the
victory by a technical knockout. .
They had battled fairly evenly to
the delight of 13,000 customers
through the first four rounds. Early
In the. fifth, Canzoneri lashed out
with a left hook to his San Fran
cisco rival's face. The flesh about
Kllck's eye puffed up Instantly and
before the round was over It was
completely shut, a black and blue
mass. In the eighth another left
hook broke the swelling open, and
after 1:43 minutes of fighting In the
next round Haley decided to stop the
bout, rather than permit the far

Robin Reed, 157 pounds, of Reeds
port, won a deolslon over Sailor
Trout, 162, of San Pedro, In the main
event wrestling match here last night.
Trout waa unable to continue after
Reed fell on him and knocked him
out.
Jack Curtlss, 159 pounds, of S.m
Antonio, won two out of three falls
from Don Sugal, 160 pounds, of
Salem.

Pioneer Hardware
Merchant Passes
SALEM, June 30. (AP) Ray L.
Farmer, 74, pioneer Salem hardware
merchant, died suddenly here Thurs
day in the basement of his retail
store. He had gone to the basement
to rest, and there succumbed to a
heart attack.
Farmer was the acting proprietor
of the oldest continuous retail es
tablishment In Salem, the founding
of the business dating back to 1868.
He had been connected with the store
since 1883.

flowers when ha arrived in Mexico
City to conduct symphony concerts.

Firestone company in 11 western
states, according to word received
here this week by C. L. Hopkins, man
ager of the Medford store. This con
test Includes 73 stores, according to
Mr. Hopkins, and ta being used aa a
barometer of business on the coast
by a number of Pacific coast busi
ness firms.
The con teat, similar to that held
last year In which trips to the Cen
tury of Progress Exposition in Chi
cago were awarded, will continue for
several weeks and awards will be In
the form of cash purses. Last year
Curt Hopkins visited Chicago as a
winner In the 1933 contest.

SALEM, Ore., June 29. The Metro
politan Life Insurance company has
filed In the circuit court an answer
to the complaint of Elva A. Single
ton In which the plaintiff aeeks to
recover on a 41000 Insurance policy
taken out by Phil R. Singleton. In
its answer the company allegea that'
the policy was by Carter, Rice & Co.,
and that the policy terminated when
Singleton left the employ of the company.
Phil Singleton, whose Insurance Is
referred to above, waa killed last
August when the oil truck he was
driving turned over near Dtxonrllle.
He waa a former resident of Medford.
The sum of 64.770 was palcf recently
for 19 Guernsey dairy cattle at a
public aale in Salisbury, N. C,
