"The Two Painters.
I aaw two painters at work one day
And I marveled how each one painted
a different way.
I saw one paint on the hearts ot men
A dark stamp of hatred and lust and
sin.
And X saw where the other had arched
the dawn
A mystic bow of new-born gold across
my window drawn.
t saw one paint a bare wooden cross
On a naked wind-swept hill,
And I saw the other paint the delicate
moss
By the side of a sheltered rill.
f ssw one paint the blood and strife
Of a death-strewn field of battle, wild
And I saw the other patnt a kingdom
or love
In the heart ot a little child.
