Comedy, action, excitement and
Intriguing romance. "Call It Luck"
has them all, according to reports
from the pre-vlew.
It zips along without a lull. It has
plenty of uproarious laughs, supplied
chiefly by Herbert Mundin and the
ludicrous situations in which he
finds himself. It has lots of love In
terest, with "Pat" Peterson and
Charles Starrett as the principals.
And It has one of those hilarious sur
prise finishes that brings down the
house.
The picture will be at the Rlalto
theatre tomorrow to substantiate
these reports.
The story la about a London cabby
who wins $125,000 on a sweepstakes
ticket.
Craterian Showing
Barrymore Comedy
Comedy that runs all the way from
the old Keystone cop variety to ridic
ulous satire Is presented in "Twenti
eth Century." at the Craterian thea
tre until tomorrow night, with a
heretofore unrevealed John Barry
more and Carole Lombard presented.
Yet It Is as bright as It is ludicrous.
Laughter that brings tears teems in
the dialogue, situation and action.
It is & burlesque of stage people;
a hnre-bralned egotist producer, an
explosive temperamental star and the
satellites surrounding them. And an
outstanding feature is the fact that
the picture Is entirely clean. There
isn't a single questionable line of
dialogue or bit of action.
Cold type can hardly mirror the
hilarity of the show's theme and the
vivid farcical characterizations of the
people who Interpret it; nor can It
adequately reflect the slapstick treat
ment that moves the work along with
greased lightning speed. Barrymore is
a composite of every genius producer
and all their Idiosyncrasies that ever
lived. He rants and raves and waves.
While making Carole Lombard a great
star, he drives press agent Roscoe
Karris and right hand man Walter
Connolly mad and audiences Into
gales of glee. The girl, acquiring all
her mother's madne.ss, quits, moves to
Hollywood, and becomes even more
famous, while hard times, Ill-luck and
what-not wetblanket every Barrymore
production effort.
All the foolishness that precedes is
Just an appetizer for what Is to fol
low as the menage moves aboard the
20th Century Limited and Barrymore
learns his errant star Js aboard. To
rehabilitate his fading fortunes he
must get her name on a contract
