gerald and Arthur Straus of Sams
Valley are leaving the laat of the
week for Chicago to visit the World's
fair. They are planning the trip by
way of Lake Tahoe, Reno, Salt Lake
and the Yellowstone National park.
They Intend to be gone until about
the first of September visiting friends
and relatives In the east.

year for the annual convention. The
state convention Is now in session at

to International Active, to conduct
the next convention of the clubs In

3 tablespoons butter. .
3 tablespoons flour.
1 cup milk.
K teaspoon salt.
y4 teaspoon paprika.
teaspoon celery salt.
3 hard cooked eggs, sliced.
ys cup diced cooked chicken.
1 teaspoon chopped parsley.
1 teaspoon chopped green pep
peri. Melt butter and add flour. Mix and
add milk and cook until creamy

Raspberry Pie Filling
S cups raspberries.
1 cup sugar.
2 tablespoons flour.
1 teaspoon cinnamon.
V4 teaspoon nutmeg.
Vi teaspoon salt.
1 tablespoon lemon Juice.
1 tablespoon water.
3 tablespoons butter.
Thoroughly wash berries. Add sugar
and flour and blend well. Add rest
of Ingredients. Pour Into unbaked
pie crust. Cover with top crust and
bake 10 minutes in moderately hot
oven. Lower fire and bake 40 min
utes In moderately slow oven.
A Tempting Salad
A good salad to serve during this
season la made by placing slices of
tomato Jelly on lettuce and topping
with cream or cottage cheese and sur
rounding with salad dressing. This
can serve as the main course for
luncheon or supper.
DINNER FOR FOUR
Meat Loaf Escalloped Potatoes
Vegetable Salad
Bread Butter
Pineapple
Gold Cakes with Creamy Frosting
Coffee a
1 pound beef round, chopped.
1 tablespoon chopped onion.
1 tablespoon chopped celery.
1 tablespoon chopped green pep
per. cup crumbs.
Vi teaspoon salt.
1 egg.
3 tablespoons butter, melted.
1 tablespoon chopped parsley.
Mix Ingredients and shape into loaf
1H Inches thick. Place In baking
pan and add Inch water. Cover
and bake one hour In moderate oven.
Baste frequently.
Vegetable Salad
1 cup cooked peas. '
l cup cooked 'carrots.
cup diced cooked beets.
1 tablespoon chopped onion.
2 tablespoons chopped pickles.
teaspoon salt.
1-3 cup diced celery.
1-8 cup salad dressing.
Mix and chill Ingredients and serve
on lettuce.
Gold Cakes
(Uusing Up Leftover Eg Yolks)
4 tablespoons butter.
Vt cups sugar.
4 tablespoons strained orange
Juice.
X teaspoon lemon extract.
teaspoon salt.
4 egg yolks.
V4 cups pastry flour.
1 teaspoons baking powder.
Cream butter and sugar. Add rest
of Ingredients and beat two minutes.
Half fill greased muffin pans or pa
per baking cups and bake IB min
utesln moderate oven. Cool and
frost. f
Creamy Frosting
3 tablespoons butter.
3 tablespoons orange Juice,
ft teaspoon salt.
4 teaspoon vanilla.
Va teaspoon almond extract.
Vt cups sifted confectioner's
sugar.
Cream butter, add sugar and rest
of Ingredients. Beat and let stand
of cakes.

WELDER KILLED WHEN
CYLINDER BLOWS UP

Harry Painton, about 50. a welder at
the Hammon -Tillamook Lumber com
pany mill at Garibaldi, was killed late i
yesterday when a locomotive cylinder 1
head blew off. Painton was welding J

Rayson, 35, who robbed a bank, es
caped, waa captured and sentenced
to 30 years' Imprisonment, alt within
the space of 4 houra, was brought
here from Roseburg last night, and
today "dressed In" at the penitentiary
and assigned to duty In the flax
plant.
Rayson yesterday robbed the Oak
land bank In Douglas county of 1900
and pleaded guilty when brought be
fore Judge B. L. Eddy.
