Joseph P. Ryan, president of the
International Longshoremen's associa
tion, here conducting settlement ne
gotiations of the Pacific coast long
shoremen's strike, said today he fa
vored submitting the question of
hiring halls to arbitration as sug
gested by Secretary of Labor Perkins.

Olenn Emmett Millar has returned
to his home In Reno. He graduated
this month from Northwestern uni
versity, receiving his degree In medi
cine. He will spend several weeks
here before continuing to Sacra
mento, where he will Interne at the
Sacramento city and county hospital.
Millar Is a graduate of the Reno
public schools. He attended the uni
versity of Nevada for two years and
then went to Stanford university,
where he received his degree In the
pre-medleal course. Reno (Nevada)
Standard.
Olenn E. Millar was born In this
city and attended primary grade
school In this city, where his father
and mother are well known. His
father was formerly a city council
man, and engnged In the cafe busi
ness here. The family has resided
In Reno, Nev., for the past 18 years.
The Millar family expects to visit
this city In July,

the match. Mrs. George Codding,
chairman of the tournament commit,
tee, announced this morning that a
special meeting will be held Wednes
day, ladles' day, next week, and all
members ax urged to be present,

Members of the Copco employes
club hesrd an Interesting talk on the
Longshoreman's strike situation by
Clinton Hurd of Portland at their
regular forum luncheon this noon.
Mr. Hurd who Is manager of the Job
bers fiupply Co., gave his hearers a
word picture of the strike which has
assumed such serious proportions and
has greatly retarded business recovery
on the Paclflo const. An early settle
ment and speedy return to normalcy
Is anticipated by Portland business
Interests according to the speaker.
Next Thursday the Copoo forum
will witness a showing of the Diam
ond Jubilee films.

Louis Vlmont, a resident of Med
ford for the past 14 years, passed
away Wednesday at Seattle, where he
went last Saturday for the benefit
of his health.
Mr. Vlmont was born at Tuscola,
XII.. August 4, 1870. At the age of
30 he moved to Dog Moines, Ta. In
1607 he was married In Illlnoln to
Idessa B, Croeap, who survives him. i
Mr. Vlmont waa a member of the
Free Methodist church. He Is sur
vived by the following children: Louis
D., of New York; Dwlght R.. Seattle;
Benjamin, Susan McCormlck, Mary
Vlmont, Ruth Lewis and John Vl
mont, nil of Mori ford. Also one
brother and three sisters: Charlotte
Vlmont and Catherine Chamberlain
of Pasadena: Marie L. Troxel, Ban
Dtego, and William Vlmont of Med
ford. The body will arrive In Medford
this evening and services will be held
at the Conger chapel at 3:30 Sun
day, with Rev. D. D. Dodge of Grants
Pass officiating. Interment in Siski
you Memorial park.

ley, 60, frequent contributor to nows

was found loto Tuesday in the small
cabin in which sho made her home

operation of the NHA fuel dealers
code tomorrow night at 8 o'clock at
the Chamber of Commerce building.
All wood and other fuel dealers of
the county are subject to the pro
visions of the code, Oaln Robinson,
member of the local code committee,
stated today. They are asked to at
tend the meeting, so that a thorough
explanation of the NRA rules may be
made to those who have not had the
opportunity of learning them.
The local committee Is composed
of F. F. Whittle, of Ashland, chair
man; O. F. Carson, of Ashland;
Kerby, of Talent; Floyd Hart, of Med
ford, and Robertson, of Medford. The
committee, appointed by the code
authority in Portland, will conduct
the meeting tomorrow night.
