Uses Indian Death Lock
In the days when Indians ronmeU the west It was the practice among
some tribes to visit, at times, a terrioie death upon captives, i.ennmt
their victim to a small tree the redskins would place his legs about the
trunk In such a manner that he could not extricate hlmselr by his own
efforts. There the captive would be left to die by hunger and thirst or be
come the prey of wild animals, The practice, known as the "Indian Death
Lock," was modified to wrestling use by Chief Little Wolf, N'avojo Indian,
(above) who meets Louie Miller of Ban Francisco here on the Armory mat
onrd tonight.
OLD FINES BALK
Applications have been filed with
the district attorney's office, for -lease
of Judgments and fines In con
victions held by the state, in order
that the applicant may secure federal
funds under the provisions of the
Home Owners' Loan corporation. The
federal organisation will not grant
the loans until the Judgments held
by the state are released. The Judg
ments are held for llnee and oosts
tor prohibition law violations.
Aooordlng to Dlatrlot Attorney
George A. Codding, there are no means
under Oregon law by which the Judg
ments ean be released and any adju
dication will take a decision by the
aupreme court, or an opinion by the
attorney general,
The district attorney holds that
the release of the Judgment would
be beneficial, alike, to the county
and the applicant. The loan would
authorize the payment of county
taxes, among the first duties and
would give the applicant a new start,
The government will not accept lea
than a full release not for the
amount of state's Judgment alone.
Bo there the question Is stalemated.
Felix fie Fixes Putts
Seattle Feline, Naturally, Loves 'Birdies'
SEATTLE, (P)- If you're having
trouble dropping your putts, drop
around to the Meadowbrook Oolf club
In Seattle and Felix Will fix 'em.
Bobby Jones, Johnny Goodman, or
Lawaon Little, the new British ama
teur champion, never sack putts like
some of the 30 and 30 footers which
are canhed In uncanny fashion at
Meadowbrook. Felix knows how, and
he has "saved" many a score for Seat'
tie golfers.
Felix Isn't the pro. No sir. He's Just
an alley cat who "Joined" the club
about two months ago. He took a lik
ing to the game and to the vlttles
handed out by the cook and decided
to hang around.
He doesn't go in for the long game,
being content to concentrate on putts
at the fourth, sixth and ninth greens
which are close to the clubhouse.
The cat spends hours sitting close
to the oups, apparently waiting for
a rat or something to Jump out. Long
iron and pitch shots bounoe all
around him but he doesn't blink an
eye. If an approach shot comes with
in a foot of the hole, however, he goes
to work. He pounces on It and flops
It In the cup for a "rub on the green."
otherwise he sits and wait tor the
putts and then helps them along
much to the delight of the players.
Because of Felix, probably more
birdies have been scored by dubs at
the ninth hole the cat's favorite
spot than at any other hole In the
country.
'If you don t believe us oome out

The weather man's prediction was
all that wa lacking to make the show
complete. Long queues of customers
at the garden's box offioe, forming
shortly after daylight and stretching
through 49th street made more cred
ible the promoter's predictions of a
60,000 crowd and reports from the
fighter's headquarters said both were
ready.
All that remained was for the New
York Athletlo commission's physici
ans to make another examination of
the expansive frames of the two gladi
ators and record their official weights
for posterity and the record books.
Baer came to town yesterday and
waited in a secluded apartment for
the weighing, earners, remained at
his camp in the New Jersey hUl

The odds still favored the vast Ve

would be Camera's hand that would
be raised at the end of IS rounds or

the affair would end in a knockout,

THYE PUNCH
THIRD WRESTLER
PORTLAND, Ore., June 14. (AP)
Don Wegner, former Oregon State
college football atar, was loser all the
way around at the wrestling matches
hers last night.
Wagner, 336, lost his bout to the
Masked Marvel, 330, on beadlocka In
the second round.
Still in a charitable mood, Wagner
offered his services as peacemaker
when Ted (King Kong) Cox and Ted
Thye commenced swapping haymak
ers, outsids the ring after each had
gained a fall in the main event.
If there la anything to which
wrestlers object It's having private
feuds interrupted, so Thye and Cox
knocked Wagner down In turn, while
Cox, 330, Lodl, Cal., stood ready to
nullify any uprising of the prone
peacemaker, Thye, 316, Portland,
crawled back Into the ring and was
awarded the bout when Referee
Verne Harrington counted Cox out.
