Painful Piles
Go Quick No Cutting No Salves
If you think an operation la always
the only way to escape the misery of
torturing Piles, It's because you
haven't heard of Hem-Rold the harm
less Internal medicine discovered by a
western physician.
After years of study Dr.' J. 8. Leon
hardt was convinced that the cause
of Piles was Internal bad circulation
of blood In the lower bowel the
hemorrhoidal veins filled with stag
nant blood and that the right and
safe way to get freedom from PiH
agony was to remove the cause with
an Internal medicine. Immediately
the doctor set to work to find the
remedy. He succeeded and called hie
prescription HEM-ROID.
Pile sufferers everywhere are bene
fiting by "Dr. Leonhardt'a discovery,
so why doubt or delay longer when
J arm 1 na. Woods, also McNalr Bros, of
Ashland and all druggists say, "No
matter -what kind of Piles you have,
one bottle of HEM-ROID tablets must
show you the safe clean way to get
rid of your pile misery or money-back."
IS
, "The Business Man Veraua Oorvfu
eion", waa the title of the address de
livered Tuesday at the local Rotary
elub meeting by Ernest Haycox of the
Portland Rotary olub, well known
novelist. The gathering waa attend
ed by many out-of-town visitors as
well as lady Rotarlana,
In his address, Mr. Haycox said
."I am Interested In one thing, and
one thing only which la the keeping
open of the road of opportunity for
the average American individual, so
that he may earn his bread and hut
' ter, protect hla home, provide for his
family, lay by something against old
age and aohleve some degree of hap
piness and comfort In this ail-too-ehort
existence.
"These are about all we may expect
from life. When the tumult and the
shouting dies and the captains and
the kings depart these things remain
as the only tangible rewards of liv
ing, to is Important then that the
road down whloh such rewards He,
hould open to everyone. Whether
wa accept or Ignore the rewards Is
another matter entirely. But the
read should be always open, so that
no man may say he has been wilfully
cheated or oppressed, so that no class
may say that It Is being crushed
down to provide privilege for any
other class.
He went on to say, later, that "The
basis of our society la the profit mo
tive, and It Is this profit motive
which, of all the motives that ani
mate us, has been most successful In
pushing men up and out of the Jun
gle and forward along the road we
call civilization. It Is this motive
which has furnished us with meet of
. our energy and ambition and creative
effort, It has been the mainspring
behind our labors."
"You cannot talk philosophy to a
hungry man," Haycox said. "You
cannot speak of Ideals to a fellow
out of a Job or to a storekeeper with
a padlock on his door or to a woman
who sees her ohlldren eating the last
of yesterday's scraps. These people
want action. And It Is precisely be
cause there have been so many mil
lions of people In this oategory the
last few years that we have seen two
atrlklng and extreme types of govern
ment rise to challenge the democratic
type. I refer, of course, to commun
ism and to fascism."
Speaking of changes In government,
Mr. Haycox told the Rotarlana: "We
can well afford any sort of reform
whloh ' alma at the suppression of
abuse, whloh attempts to keep the
road of opportunity clear for all men
alike. But whatever the reform and
whatever the law. It should be In
each Instance fair and broad and
Impartial. Beyond that we ought to
preserve our, present system.
"We should preserve it because In
all this wide world there Is no other
system whloh haa In It so much tol
erance and reasonableness, no other
system which promises the Individual
so much psrsonal security and happi
ness. It has made us great; It will
make us greater, . .
"After all, the province of govern
ment la to lay down fair rules of
competition under whloh all men
may operate", Mr. Haycox stated. "It
la an umpire, an arbiter, a court of
last resort. When It turns from that
function and seta up shop In compe
tition with the individual citizens,
when It plays favorites with one or
another of Its claasea It turns Into a.
bureaucracy, which la the most
stupid, Inefficient, unwieldy mechan
ism the mind of men can conceivably
devise.
"It comes down to this basic proposition.-
rf we are to be a democ
racy we must solve our problems as
Individuals, If wa cannot do It as
Individuals then we are confessing
that the loglo of fascism and com
munism la true that we do not pos
sess the ability to think for ourselves,
or govern ourselves." We are confess
ing that democracy la merely a dream
without reality. And that Is some
thing I oannot believe and will not
believe, Nor do I think you believe
It." . ..
