NEW YORK. May 38. (UP) Lupe
Velez, and Johnny Weissmuller were
back together again last night but
Lupe wag In no pleasant mood at
tha Brooklyn theater, where she Is
making a personal appearance.
diving what she said would be her
last Interview, Lupe unleashed her
wrath In a bitter stream, declaring
that newspaper reportera "give me
flesh-goose" and are trying their
best to break up her marrlnge to Tar
zan of the Apes.
Johnny Calm
Johnny Weissmuller was presen but
not quite so stirred up over condi
tions. "We come east," said Lupe, pacing
the floor and speaking In strident
tones, "and so what? So Johnny
stop off In Washington to play the
goir. l come on to make these per
sonal appearance. And the newspa
pers say we bust up.
so Johnny, he see something In
the paper like these and he Is al
ready on his way back to Hollywood.
So he turn around and come back,
and1 he come In hre today and he say,
-wnat the hell Is these?' So I say.
Tes, what th hell?' M
This somewhat Incoherent version
doesn't Jibe with a story told by some
one else at the theater. It seems that
Tarzan, when he got to Pittsburg
en route to the coast, saw an Item
saying Lupe bore bruises as a result
of their latest fight. He sent a tele
gram to Brooklyn asking that Lupe
telephone him at a Pittsburgh hotel.
No Telephoning
"By God, no," said Lupe. "I no
telephone that Johnny. If he loft
me he comes to Brooklyn."
And he come. And now Lupe hat
flesh-goose,
A fairly large share of Lupe' anat
omy was exposed during the Inter
view. There was no evidence of
bruises.
"No," she shouted; "I don't take
off my clothes in front of youl That
girt who was here, yes, I undress
in front of her. But no for her to
see. She was here, and X have to
change my clothes, so I no make her
chase out the door. X tell you there
Is no bruises. My angel he does not
hit me. He better not try. because
I can hit too."
Lupe ordered an Ice cream aoda to
temper the heat of her Indignation.
Would Bust 'Em Up
"Johny and I," she said, "have
nothing to do no more with the
newspapers, They do not want to
see people be happy. They want we
should bust up."
"It seems like," drawled Tarzan,
that every time X go out somewhere
atone in Hollywood the papers get
the idea we have been fighting. I
go to a prizefight, or to a party, and
the headlines blossom out next day.
Nobody seems to think about asking
If Lupe had to be at work, or If she
was sick."
"I no like," Interrupted Lupe. "to
be the tough guy. But some day I
get mad and I scratch out plenty
eyes. And my angel, he would help
me. wouldn't you, precious?"
Tarzan Just grinned and said ha
thought he'd go for a swim. They
are leaving together by plane Friday
for the coast.
