will move on Main street to Bear
Creek bridge, where It will be halted
and there will be:

oceans, lakes and rivers.

The Relief Corps and Daughters of
Veterans will conolude a memorial
ceremony at Medford I. O. O. F. cem
tery at 2 p. m. Decoration day. All
members of other veteran and pa
triotic organizations and the public

ford high school, has been awarded a
summer scholarship In the Carnegie
Art Center of the University of Ore
gon. She Is one of twenty-five art
teachers in the Paclflo northwest to
reotlv this recognition and oppor
tunity. For several years the Csrnegle cor
poration has mad a grant of several
thousand dollars to each of the two
art centers In the United States
en at Harvard university and one at
the University of Oregon. At Bugene,
courses are ottered In applied design,
painting, composition, art teaching
and art appreciation. The visiting
professor is Dr. Eugen Ousts steln
hof, director of ths National School
ef Decorative Art In Vienna.
All of the courses ol the art center
are open to those enrolled In the uni
versity summer session. Those receiv
ing scholarships have their expenses
paid. This is the first year scholar
ship hvo been granted to public
school art teachers, being previously
restricted to art Instructor In col
leges, normal school and unlveraltles.
Ths advance guard of the thous
ands of visitors expected In Med
ford and Jacksonville for Oregon's
Diamond Jubilee celebration next
June 8 to 9 are beginning to arrive
in Medford. A special committee Is
completing preparations to provide
for the housing of the expected
throng.
While hotels, rooming houses and
auto camps will provide for the
needs of many visitors, efforts have
been underway for some time to con
tact all resident having extra rooms
which could be used for the benefit
of persons unable to obtain accommo
dations at hotels. Reports have been
consistently received of the arrival
and expected arrival of visitors from
numerous distent point to partici
pate in Oregon' birthday celebra
tlon.
While Jubilee week was primarily
Inspired by the opportunity of state.
hood anniversary observance and the
payment of homage to the pioneers
of long ago, the week will be with
out dull momet-ta. Entertainment of
all kinds will be provided. Thrills
will be found In Oregon's Diamond
Jubilee roundup, presented for four
afternoons for cash prizes In bull
dogging, steer roping, broncho rid
ing, bareback brono riding and other
contests.
Four official Jubilee dance will
be presented Wednesday, Thursday,
Friday and Saturday nights, with
other dancea scheduled for Monday
and Tuesday. An Indian village, with
real Indiana living as they did 100
years ago, will be featured, as well
as one of the best carnivals In the
west.
An aviation show on Saturday,
with scores of ships arriving from
ths northwest and California, will
be another noteworthy attraction,
with special stunts presented
throughout the day. There will be
special attractions In Ashland on
Education day, Tuesday, June 8, fol
lowed by special attractions In the
hlatorlo gold mining town of Jack
sonville, Thursday. A pageant, "Oyer-Un-Oon,"
depicting Oregon history,
will be presented Wednesday, Thurs
day and Friday evenings,

An Important meeting of Medford
Poat No. 18 of the American Legion
Is scheduled for tomorrow night at
the Armory. Final arrangements for
the observance of Memorial day will
he made and every Legionnaire Is
urged to plan now to march In the
parade to pay homage to his departed
comrades.
Plans for the Legion caravan to
Klamath Fall Tuesday, will be dis
cussed during the evening. This Im
portant caravan to advertise the. Dia
mond Jubilee in Klamath has been
turned over to the local Legion poet
and every effort will be made to as
sure Its success. Present plans are for
a big parade In Klamath Fall Tues
day evening with the Medford Legion
drum corps, a (team calliope, loud
apeaker equipment and other novel
features to publlcls the Jubilee.

ticipate In the Legion caravan to ad
vertise the Diamond Jubilee In Klam
ath Falls Tuesday evening. A large
number of cars are needed In order
to make an Impressive showing In thi
Klamath metropolis and all who plan
to go should phone Horace Bromley,
chairman of the caravan committee
or Lee Oarlock at the A. A. A. office.
Those wishing transportation ahould
also report to either of the above
Legionnaires. Present plans call for
auembly at Jubilee headquarters at
3:30 p. m. Tuesday to secure placards
and advertising material and the cara
van will move promptly at 8 p. m.
Plenty of music haa been secured for
the parade In Klamath and Include
the Legion drum corps, a steam cal
liope and loud apeaktng equipment. It
la also planned to take along the
110,000 Brahma bull from the Jubilee
rodeo to put on an exhibition of hlgn
Jumping for the Klamath citizens.

for ths best display of rabbit fur
articles, best fur robe, best display
of tanned rabbit fur, best mink hides,
best blu fox bide and Fitch hide.
All entries In the pioneer parade,
one of the outstanding features of
Oregon's Diamond Jubilee celebration,
must be registered not later than
Monday night, May 38, according to
J. Verne Shangle, parade chairman.
Anyone who plans to participate
In the parade must be formally ent
ered by Monday night In order that
the parade may be chartered and
the entries numbered for the pro
grams. Entries may be made at the
Jubilee headquarters or with Mrs.
O. L. Hopkins, of ths parade com
mittee, who can be reached at the
Firestone Service Stores.
A complete listing of the parade
will appear In the Medford Mall Tri
bune at a later date and all who
plan to witness It are urged by the
committee to procure a copy so that
every detail of the mammoth spec
tacle will be Interpreted for them.
Although entries will be accepted
later than Monday night, they can
not be numbered and given favored
positions.
The parade Is rapidly rounding Into
shape and promises to be one of the
greatest shows of Its kind ever staged
on the coast.
Unlike many parades which are as
sembled without "rhyme or reason,"
'the Jubilee's pioneer parade will be
a marvel of pageantry and will por
tray Oregon history, beginning with
Captain Cray's discovery of the Col
umbia river, to the birth of the state
In 1859.
The Lewis and Clark expedition
alone will utilize SO men In costumes,
while the wagon train will number
more than a dozen genuine "prairie
schooners" and covered wagons.. The
floats, depicting the highlights of
Oregon history, are now being con
structed and those who have seen
them are enthusiastic over their faith
ful portrayal of the colorful histori
cal event.

day morning, June 7,

Petition for rehearing in the case
of Lola Hill, plaintiff, and respond
ents, va. Stella J. Merrick, doing
bualneaa under the firm nacae and
style of "Merrick's Motor Inn," de
fendant and appellant,' was denied
by the supreme court of the state
of Oregon Tuesday, and the mandate
of the supreme court was filed with
the county clerk Friday, and the de
fendant, Stella J. Merrick, Is now
required to respond In damages to
the plaintiff, Lois Hill, In the sum
of 1,1 06 .00.
The Injury occurred at the Nat-
atorlum on the 25th day of June,
1031. Action was Instituted by the
plaintiff on the 30th day of July,
1033, and a Jury brought In a ver
dict for the plaintiff in the afore
said amount on the 7th day of
February, 1033. Thereafter the case
was appealed to the supreme court.

peared for plaintiff, Lois Hill, In the
supreme court, and Harley W. Allen
of Portland appeared for the defend
ant.

The downpour renched cloudburst
proportions at Hetch Hetchy In Tuol
umne county, which reported .73 of
an Inch had fallen to 6 a. m., and at
Sonora, where .88 of an Inch fell In
minutes last night.

Heart hospital Saturday morning at
o'clock Buffering cut and bruises,
the result of being knocked down by

The accident occurred at Main and

Hospital attendants said that Mrs.
Leach's condition wa not serious and
she returned to her home last even
ing. Mrs. Mary S. Hay, 80, of Central
Point, was also In the Sacred Heart
hospital, having fractured her right
hip In a fall when ahe slipped on
the steps at her home Friday even

Reports from 110 Oregon firms indi
cate, the federal reserve bank here
said today, "that Industrial employ
ment and payrolls In that state In
creased by about the customary
amount during April."
The bank survey revealed activity
expanded less than the full seasonal
amount In the Important lumber and
wood products Industries, but "In
creases In the number of employes
and payrolls In the textiles and food
products groups were larger than In
most recent years."
It was also found that average
weekly earnings were somewhat larg
er than In March.
The bank's Index of employment
Indicated Oregon. Industries showed
70 per cent of the 1928 monthly av
erage at work, compared with 66 In
March and CI In April last year. Fay.

H. Q. Snodgraas, president, and W.
Blackburn, vice president, of Mer
cantile Acceptance Corporation of
California, both of whom are officers

tion, spent Friday in Medford going
over the company affairs and dis
cussing the automobile finance busi
ness in this territory.
Mr. Snodgraas commented on the
general Improvement In business
which was of considerable interest
to the Commercial Finance corpora
tion stockholders in thl territory.

car sales In California. Mr. Snod
graas stated, "While It la true that
new car registrations In California
last year increased approximately 38
per cent, new car sales were still
far below normal." Mr. Snodgraas be
lieves that obsolesence and the age
of many of the cars now In use Is
creating an enormous demand for new
cara which will be satisfied by pur
chasers as soon as people are con
vinced that condition will continue
to Improve.
