ATHLETES GIVEN
State Board Implies Critl
cism In Official Audit
Student Body Fees Not
Collected From Many.
SALEM, Ore. (UP) Criticism of
"acholarshtpB" granted certain ath
letes at Oregon Normal achool, Mon-
mouth, waa Implied today In the of
ficial audit of atate board of higher
education affairs.
Tha audit, prepared by the atate
department, reported that "Student
body fees were not collected from all
of the students at the Oregon Nor
mal achool. Thirteen students dur
ing the fall term, 14 during the win
ter term, 31 during the spring term
and four during the aummer term
. were not required to pay student
body fees. , t
. President Explains
"This concession was granted, ac
cording to the president and man
ager of the Oregon Normal school,
for the reason that some of the stu
dents were taking part-time work
and others were members of the fac
ulty, but largely because many of
the students were athletes."
Student fees paid during the 1032-
3033 school year, covered by the au
dit, were found to total $604,347.28,
This Included 21B,397.B8 at Oregon
State college; $270,640.13 at Univer
sity of Oregon; $76,624.22 at the uni
versity medical school, Portland; $21,-
489,19 at Oregon Normal achool,
Monmouth; $12,692 at Southern Ore
gon Normal, Ashland; $8,764.16 at
Eastern Oregon Normal, La Grande.
Two Counties Owe Board
The audit revealed that the board
of higher education had advanced
$1,000 for extension work In agrl
culture In Crook county and $400 In
Malheur county for which reimburse
ments had not been made. The
counties were unable to pay their
share, required by law, for support
ing the work,
The board held $16,048 In county
warrants for money advanced to keep
agricultural agents at work In four
counties over a period of three years.
Coos county owed the board $6,960,
beachutes $8,806, Klamath $1,148,
Washington $1,240.

There will be an entrance fee of $10,
The grand finale of the riding con-
teat occurs Saturday night following
competition on Wednesday, Thursday,
Friday and Saturday afternoons. Calf
roping and bulldoggtng carries similar
purses, divided the same way. A
purse of 9250 has been set aside for
Brahma steer riding, divided Into
62.60 per day, split Into 3B, $17.50,
112.50 and $7.50, There will be an
entrance fee of $5. A similar purse
and division has been announced for
bareback bronc riding.
The roundup wlllbe governed by
rules of the Rodeo association of
America. AU contestants will be ask
ed to participate In all parades and
In general fully cooperate to assure
the success of the presentation. Com
petent judges will be selected to re
turn fair and Impartial verdicts.
One of the interesting features of
the roundup will be the presence of
a 910,000 Brahma bull, having horns
measuring eight feet from tip to tip,
