The Elks picnic, previously sched
uled for May 30 at the lodge's camp
ground on Rogue river, - was post
poned to a later date after consider
able discussion at last night's lodge
session. The committee In charge of
the affair expects to announce the
new date within a few days. It is
planned to stage a btg entertainment
for Elks and their friends with band
concert, games, free feed and beer, a
"songfest" and boxing card.
Next Thursday's lodge meeting will
be a red letter night for the sntlered
herd, with over 35 applicants being
given Initiation. ThU la the second
large class to enter the lodge within
the past few months.
Nominations were In order l&st
night for trustee to fill the vacancy
caused by resignation of H. N. Butler!
who was recently elected exalted ruler
of Med ford Elks lodge. William Ham
mett and Delroy Oetchell were nom
inated for the trusteeship.
M. L. Andrews, capatln-elect of the
North Carolina State college rifle
team, scored 383.3 points out of a
possible 400 In the recent state cham
pion shoot.

their regular projects, according to
the annual report Just submitted by
p. L. Ballard, atate county agent
leader. The number of ottlce calls
by tarmeis and others aeealng spe
cific assistance extceeded 100,000 for
the year. .a new high mark since the
county agent service was establUied
In 1013.
Advent of the agricultural adjust
ment act and the other emergency
relief programs gave the agents the
added task of explaining the wheat
adjustment program, the corn-hog
plan, and assisting with seed loans,
farm mortgugo adjustment, and state
and federal relief activities. Ballard
points out.
Despite this added emergency work,
marked progress was made during the
year In the major regular project.

More county agents and assistants
are now employed In Oregon than ever
before every county except Harney

aret stub from an upstairs window
to the street,' it landed In the baby
buggy containing four weeks old
Maureen Fearon, daughter of Mr, and
Mrs. John Fearon. The psrenta dis
covered the buggy blase Just as fire
was eating into little Maureen pil
low.' The Fearons are considering
writing manufacturers to make a
fireproof buggy top.
