the St. Louis Browns have begun to
assume a threatening attitude toward
their American league rivals,
After a bad start which allowed
them to remain out of the cellar only
because of the Chicago White Sox
were even less successful, the Browns
wound up their recent eastern tour
with & flourish of four victories In
their last five games. Returning
home yesterday they avenged two de
feats in Boston by trimming the Red
Sox 4 to 3, moved ahead of the losers
Into sixth place In the standing, vir
tually tied with Washington for the
next higher notch.

BELCASTRO TAKES
In the main event of the mat card
at the Armory last night, aftr Walt
Slrots, scientific grappler from France,
had given him everything but the
war debt, Pete Belcastro, Sacramento
scrapper, came through with a rolling
scissors to take the deciding fall, and
leave his recent streak of wins un
broken.
The 187-pound Belcastro dropped
the first fall in nine minutes when
the beefy Sirols applied five flying
headlocks and gave the Italian such a
headache that he couldn't keep his,
shoulders off the mat. The belligerent
Pete came back fast In the second
and gave Slrols so much slugging,
kneeing and choking that he got into
an argument with Referee Ray Pris-
bie.- The Frenchman Sonnenberged

Belcastro was plenty mad and pinned
