Nationalization of the liquor Indus
try was urged today before the house
by Representative Hoeppel (D Cal.)
He suggested appointment of a
non-partisan commi&rlon to control
manufacture, distribution and sale
of beer, wine and liquor.
"The unrestricted sale of liquor,
with the Increasing number of ac
cidents and Infractions of law trace
able to its unbridled use," Hoeppel
said, "Is becoming a national me
nace, Just as Is the unrestricted sale
of firearms to whomsoever has the

Twin Plunges. Ashlnnd's swimming
and dancing resort, will open for the
1934 season next Sunday. As a free
attraction to Interest patrons and
spectators, the lessees, K. R, Knollln
and H. S. (Mike) Hoymsn, will have
at 3 p, m. Sunday an exhibition In
swimming snd diving by tho members
of the University of Oregon aquatic
teams, who are making the trip to
Ashland for that purpose under the
auspices of the plunges. Some of the
member of the teams are training
for the Pacific coast championship,
and have records to their credit which
are higher than any Intercollegiate
records yet made.
This 1b the first time In the history
of southern Oregon that so many
stellar athletes will entertain, free of
charge, at any pool.
The Twin Plungea have been leased
by Knollln and Hoyman, both In
structors In physlcnl education of
the University of Oregon, for the 1034
season, and as a compliment to them
the university boys are coming to
Ashland to show southern Oregon
people examples of wonderful swim
ming and diving. It Is expected that
hundreds of people from southern
Oregon and northern California will
be present Sunday afternoon to wit
ness the exhibition.
