held in Roseburg, May o.
The afternoon session waa held In

religious servlcea opening the Oregon
Diamond Jubilee, In three weeks, has
already started rehearsals, aa has the

Jane Tliacher
An outstanding artist of the Pa
cific coast, Jane Thacher, professor
of piano at the University of Oregon,
will be In Medford on Friday, May
18, to appear In recital at the Bald
win Piano shop, 318 West Main
street, It was announced yesterday.
Thla will be Mrs. ' Thacher's first
presentation for musical circles and
It la expected that many Interested
persona from all parts of the valley
will be In attendance. Mra. Thacher
Is widely known for her artistic pre
sentations, and her recital April 38
at the school of music auditorium on
the university campus In Eugene waa
highly acclaimed In press notices.
Mrs. Thacher, who has been with
the university school of music for
many yeara, was a pupil of Lechetlfc
sky when studying In Vienna. Her
husband, Goodwin Thacher of the
university, Is well known for his short
story writing.

Announces Wedding
Of Miss Brittisan
A series of parties was given dur
ing the past two woeks. at which
the marriage of Mis Mnrgaret Brit
tisan to W. L. Stutaford, an event
of February 34, waa, announced to
frtenda and relatives of the couple.
Laat Monday Mra. Stutaford enter
tained at a 4:30 o'clock tea, to which
ten guests wore invited. Each was

The announcement were given out
by Ronald Brittisan, small brother
of Mrs. Stuf iford.
Twelve guests were Invited for
luncheon the pre coding Tuesday and
Wednesday, and each of the gueatt
received a lovely corsage, and an
announcement of the wedding. On
Tuesday the prise during the after
noon went to Mra. Cornatead, and
on Wednesday, to Mrs. P. L. Spencer
Mra. Stutaford, assisted by Mian
Eva Zler of Walla Walla, entertained
at brMge on Wednesday evening, ten
gueat being invited. First prlae went
to Mra. RInabarger and consolation
to Mra. L. T. Brittisan of Central
Point.
Sixteen guests were Invited for
bridge Friday afternoon to Mrs.
8tu ta ford's home, and the announce
ment of" the marriage waa made at
the party. Mrs. Cieor was given first
prlte and Mrs. Grcevea of General
Point waa given the consolation prise.
Snapdragons, rosea and pinks were
used In decorating the rooms. .
Mr. and Mra. Stutaford are making
their home in Medford, where Mr.
Stutaford Is employed.

Music Monday Eve
In keeping with National Music
week, the program presented Monday
evening at the Crater Lake Qui Id
meeting waa entirely devoted to
music. The meeting was held at the'
home of Mrs. Lawrence Pennington
on the Jacksonville highway.
Mrs. Jamea W, Qrlgsby and . Mrs.
Gerald Barr sang a duet, "The Garden-
of Prayer," after which little
Mlsa Alice Brill, accompanied by Mrs.
Brill, played two violin solos, selec
tions from "The Bohemian Girl" and
"Moto Perpetuo."
Miss Betty Jane Pennington gave
"Manhattan Seronade" aa a piano
solo, and Miss Margaret Pennington
sang "Riptide" and "This Little Pig
gle Went to Market."
"Impromptu", in 0 Sharp Minor,
by Chopin, and Percy Granger's ar
rangement of "Londonderry Airs"
were played at the piano by Miss
Imogene Wallace.
Mrs. Walter Frazer Brown gave
paper on music. She was assisted by
Mrtj, Darrel Huson, who sang ballads
to illustrate types of music, using
"Drink To Me Only With Thine Eyes"
"Steal Away" and "A Home on the
Range." '
Also as a part of this feature, Mrs.
Huson conducted a singing school
with the negro spiritual, "Swing Low,
Sweet Chariot", being used. The
"school" closed, with "The Star. Span
gled Banner."
Mrs. Esther Merrltt Sanderson sang
"God Touched the Rose" and "Sweet
est Story Ever Told." Two piano solos
"La Campanella". by Liszt, and
"Fourth Mazurka" by Godard were
played by Cyril Sander.
Refreshments were served by the
hostesses. Mrs. Everett Faber, Mrs.
Emily Dynan and Mrs. Cool.
Lady Elks to Meet
At Temple Tuesday
Lady Elks will meet at the Elks
Temple Tuesday afternoon for bridge,
pool and bowling. Mra. Harry Barne

Parties This Week
Groups of students at the Junior
high school have planned swimming
parties for this week. The Civics
club and the ninth grade will have
party on Friday. Also this week
the cast of the operetta, "Crocodile
Island", will have a party.

Mrs. Baker
A surprise flowor shower, honoring
the birthday of Mrs. S. I. Baker, pio
neer of Jackson county, was given
Friday afternoon by Mesdames Ches
ter Baker, W. R. Bullock and Harry
Baker, at the latter's home.
The rooms- were decorated with
lovely spring flowers and the honor
guest was the recipient of many bou
quets and potted plants.

The Triangle club of the First
Christian church held Its program
for; the mothers, Tuesday, in the
recreation hnll of the church.
The regular business meeting waa
held during which officers for the
coming year were elected. They were:
Mildred Buckles, re-elected president;
vice-president, Dick Frsley; secretary,
lone Kindred and treasurer, Neal
Curry. The group leaders are: Price
Shafer, Bruce Ruff and Dorothy
Buchter. Mrs, Marsh Is the advisor
for the society.
Three special numbers were given,
a violin solo, "In the Garden," by
Bruce Ruff, accompanied by Elsie
Penwell; a vocal solo entitled "Dear
Uttls Mother of Mine," by Morguor
It Luman, and a piano solo, "An'
dantlno" in D Flat, by Mildred
Buckles.
After the business meeting the
president turned the meeting over to
Dick Fraley s group. Several members
gave talks: "Have Missions Failed.'
by Mildred Buckles; "The Require
ments of a Good Missionary," by
Larry Grantham, and "Educatton,"
by Price Shafer. The scripture was
read by Dorothy Buchter. The chair
waa then turned back to the presi
dent, who asked for speeches from
several of the guests.
Many mothers were present and
each was given a corsage as ahe en
tered the door. Disappointment was
expressed that Mrs. F. J. Wllmot,
district secretary tor the missionary
societies, could not be present. After
the meeting refreshment were served.

a Mother's day tea, and a delight
ful program, In charge of Mrs. J.
H. Cochran.
The hymn, "Sweet - By and By,"
was sung by all present, with Mrs.
Maurlne Duncan accompanying. De
votions were given by Mrs. N. C.
Howard. Mrs. R. C. Mulholland, ac
companied by Mrs. Duncan and Mrs.
C. I. Drummond playing the violin,
sang "Thoughts of Home" and "My
Little Nigger Baby."
Mrs. I.: E. Schuler's reading "The
Wills" by Barrie was greatly enjoyed
by those In attendance. Mrs. Drum
mond played two violin solos, with
accompaniment by Mrs. Duncan. They
were "The Wild Rose" and "The Song
My Mother Taught Me.", Mary Louise
McElhose, at the piano, delighted the
audience with "The Donnybrook
Fair," and an encore number.
Aa the guests arrived, they were
each 'presented a rose lri memory
of mother. The rooms were gay with
spring flowers', arranged by Mrs. G.

Louis Brown, Mrs. George West and

The bride was attired in a travel
ing suit of turquoise blue, with white
accessories, while her attendant. Miss
Lyla Young wore a suit of a tan
shade. Clarence Smith attended the
groom.
Following the ceremony, a recep
tion was held for the wedding guests,
Including relatives and a few friends.
The table was decorated in pink and
white, and baskets of flowers were
arranged about the rooms. .
Mr. and Mrs. Fitzsimmon, who are
now on a wedding trip to the coast,
plan to make their home in Medford.

The Ladles' Auxiliary of the First
Baptist church held a combined busi
ness and missionary meeting at the
home of Mrs. L. J. Knox on Portland
avenue Tuesday afternoon.
The meeting was called to order by
the president. Mrs. Joseph Lester,
and all joined In singing "Take Time
To Be Holy". Mrs.- Lester read a
portion of the fourth chapter of
James, followed with prayers by Mrs.
Borrett and Mrs.- Fowler. Reports
were given on the association meet
ing which was held In Ashland May
1 and 2. Prayers were then given by
Mrs. Stickland and Mrs. Howell.

The members of the L. T. L. under
the direction of Mrs. Guy Cox, will

A melodious and tuneful operetta
with unusually fine chorus work for
finale, waa enjoyed by Medford folk,
who gathered at St. Mary's academy
Tuesday evening for presentation of
The Mysterious Master, which also
represented a tremendous amount of
fine work on the part of student
and faculty.

were filled with music by Elaine Bro
phy, at the harp, and Esther Alexan
der, at the violin, the latter acconv
