Adding another great attraction to
Oregon'a Diamond Jubilee celebration
next June 8 to 9 In Medford and
Jacksonville, arrangements have been
eompleted for the presentation of Earl
Cowan's famous roundup weanesaay,
Thursday, Friday and Saturday after
noons at the county fairgrounds. The
Important announcement was made
at last night's general commutee
meeting of the celebration.
The roundup la composed of over
160 bucking horses, steers, bulla
calves, cows, bronch buaters, riders
and other performers. It Is declared
to be one of the most outstanding
organisations of Its kfnd and ranks
second to the famous Fenmewn
roundup, which Is celebrating Its sil
ver Jubilee this year. The Cowan pro
gram includes innumerable feats of
horsemanship, steer roping, bulldog'
glng, roping demonstrations and
other features never before presented
In southern Oregon.
Rounds Out Program.
Good fortune Is felt In the availa
bility of the roundup for the celebra
tion and will round out a well bal
anced program which lends every as
surance Jubilee week will be with
out lagging momenta at any time.
' Reports of different committee
heads at last night's meeting Indi
cated commendable progress In every
division.
Offers of co-operation and partlcl
patlon In the pioneer parade, sched
uled for Thursday, have arrived from
widely scattered sections, J. Verne

ture of the jubilee have taken a defi
nite shape, with preparations begin
ning on the numerous entries. Ranch

Industrial Parade feature.
While the pioneer parade la recog
nised as one of the outstanding fea
tures of Jubilee week, It will be
closely rivaled In Interest by the
agricultural and Industrial parade o
Friday, under the committee chair
manship direction of R. O. Fowler.
Southern Oregon granges are taking
part 100 per cent and numorous ex
ceptionally attractive floats are ex
pected, Merchants, industrial organi
sations, lodges and civic organisations
are urged to participate in this cele
bration feature, as well aa all com
munities of the valley and southern
Oregon.
Preparations for the Jubilee souve
nir program have been' completed, A.
H. Miller, program chairman, reported
last night. The booklet, printed
locally, promises to be an exception
ally attractive piece of work. Its
cover design Is a work of art and is
printed in several colors. It contains
a complete program of the week's
activities, a history of Oregon, and
numerous other blt of interest. It
will be available within two weeks
for local residents to mall out to
friends and relatives in other sections
of the country.
Plan Four Dances. .
- Further plans for the four official
Jubilee dances were discussed. They
will be held In the armory, espec
ially decorated for the occasion, and
will have music furnished by excep
tionally good orchestras. The Active
club has agreed to co-operate with
the general committee In handling
the arrangements for these occasions,
with the entire revenue going Into
the Jubilee general fund.
From prsent Indications, one of the
best exhibits of Oregon products ever
exhibited In the state will be pre
sented In the Oregon Manufacturers'
exhibit In the Nntatorlum. Exhibit
Chairman W, A. Oatos roported the
response from manufacturers has ex
ceeded expectations, and It Is likely
the available space will be gone In a
short time. Local firms desiring space
In this division are urged to make
reservations early.
Con res Ions Bought,
Likewise the demands for conces
sion space are rapidly Increasing with
the possibility all available specs will
be gone In a short time, W. W. Allen,
concession chairman, reported. Re
quests for concessions have been re
ceived from a widely scattered area.
Harry Parkinson, representing the
Flek Flag and Decorating company of
Portland, holders of the Jubilee street
decoration contract, has been contact
ing local merchants the past week tn
connection with the decoration of
store fronts. He told committee mem.
bers last evening merchants on the
whole are anxious to decorate their
places of business to lend to the
Jubilee spirit, presenting a completely
decorate: city for the big week.

ville, Ashland. Talent, Phoenix and
business establishments along the
way, extending a genuine Jubilee wel
come to visitors throughout the
length of the valley.
Caret ans Coming,
Little doubt surrounds the success
of Trail Day, scheduled for Wednes
day, June 0, according to Informa
tion reported by K. O. (Jerry) Jerome,
general chairman of the celebration
He has been assured of the arrival of
caravans from the Redwood Empire,
extending as fnr south as Sun Fran
cisco, from Victoria, B. 0 from
central California, from Portland,
from central and eastern Oregon. In
terest in all these srctlons has reached
a high point people are all anxious
to come to Medford and Jacksonville
to observe Oregon's 7Mh anniversary
of statehood, paying slmpls tribute
to the pioneer spirit of long ago which
made this statehood possible.
With rehearsals steadily progress
ing the "Oyer-Un-aon," (Land of
Plenty) Jubilee week visitors are as
sured of one of the greatest histori
cal pageants ever presented in the
west. Over 600 people, including the
well known Medford Oleemen and
scores of Medford and southern Ore
gon people, will take port In this long
to be remembered production, writ
ten and directed by Prof. Angus Bow
mer, of the Southern Oregon Normal
school. Historical Incident leading
up to and including the establish
ment of Oregon statehood will be
faithfully reviewed by this carefully
prepared presentation.
Five Bands to Play.
Band m u s 1 o will be popular
throughout the week, Wilson Walt,
chairman of the band contest com
mittee, reported lost evening, but on
Friday of Jubilee week, at least five
bands will be present tn Medford, in
cluding rpresentatlons from Weed,
Calif., Roaeburg, Klamath Falls, Ash
land and Medford. It Is probable
bands from other sections will also
be available.
While much of the Jubilee week
activities will be In Medford. with
Tuesday devoted to program activities
In Ashland, Jacksonville, one of Ore
gon's oldest and most historic towns,
will be featured throughout the week
attracting thousands of visitors to
this choice corner of the Rogue River
valloy.
An Interesting program Is being
prepared by the citizens of this pro
gressive city, established seven years
before Oregon realized th Joys of
statehood. Shades of 35,000 departed
yesterdays will be drawn aside, once
more reviving the days when gold
gleamed on ne&rby hillsides, and
stagecoaches rumbled from the south
to the north and from the north to
the south. Again will return the
echoes of adventurous days when the
cracks of Slwosh rifles pierced the air,
when hostile Indians were off on the
paths of war.

throughout the week and the build
ings which were old when Medford
was new will be thrown open to the
public. Further details of pioneer
days In Jacksonville will be an
nounced from time to time.
Th' federal corn-hog production
control program shows there are 103
applicants In Jackson county, and 62
In Josephine county, according to fig
ures complied by the office of Coun
ty Agent Robert a. Fowler. Number
of hogs listed in the applications
shows 0035 hogs In Jackson county,
and 1791 In Josephine county.
According to County Agent Fowler
the hog population follows the fed
eral count, which In 1930 listed ap
proximately 5600 hogs In this county.
The assessor's office figures for last
year, show there were 3030 hogs In
Jackson county.
The corn acreage In this county is
listed at 660 acres on a two years
average. It has Increased under the
federal activity Impetus.
The wheat production program for
this county Is also reaching Impor
tant stages, according to county
Agent Fowler. Federal inspection of
the wheat acreage will start within
the next two weeks, and another pay
ment of money will be made July 1.
Under the wheat production regu
lations, the names of the growers,
the amount of wheat sown, and the
estimated crop, will be published.
This enables the government to have
a close check on wheat production,
and farmers to see what each other
Is doing.
County Agent Fowler says the
wheat and other grains are well along
and looking fine. The late spring
wheat Is backward, he states.
DOCTORS TO MEET
IN ASHLAND NEXT
The ctty of Asnland will be the
meeting place of the' next session of
the Southern Oregon Medical society,
It was decki:a here yesterday at the
close of the 43rd annual meeting,
conceded to be one of the most suc
cessful In the history of the organi
zation. A highlight of the day was the
luncheon served at the Chas. T. Swee
ney country home to 120 doctors
and their families. Fried chicken
from the Sweeney poultry yards was
featured on the menu.
Twenty wives of local doctors as
sisted Mrs. Sweeney as hostess for
the occasion.
Dr. Sweeney will be leaving this
evening for Rose burg, where he will
address the Douglas County Medical
assocltalon this evening and the Fed
erated Women's Clubs In convention
tomorrow morning. His subject will
be "Nature of Cancer and Its Con
trol." He will return to Medford
Thursday afternoon.
Doctors Leave Having attended the
43rd annual meeting of the southern
Oregon Medical society here yester
day, several of the delegates left by
train last night for their homes
throughout the state.
Leaves for Roseburg Bishop Sum
ner, who spent several days here as a
guest of John 0. Mann, left on the
Shasta this morning for Roaeburg,
and plans to travel from there to
Marsh field.

operate all the balanoe of thla year.
Plans toward this end are now being
worked out by Manager Owen, The
mill operates under the NRA lumber
code. The sawmill department Is on
a six day week, eight hour basis.
Other department hay a 40 hour
week. The logging oamps In the
Butte Falls dlstrlot generally keep
open until snow files, and come un
der the head of a seasonal occupa
tion. They are now In full operation,
employing approximately 7ft men,
mostly residents of the Butte Falls
district.
Like all Industry, the future of
lumbering Is rather Indefinite, but
with brightening market prospects.
Dally trips are now being made by
the Medford logging railroad, hauling
logs from Butte Falls.
Operation of the mill until Christ
mas would provide employment and
lessen the labor strain next winter,
besides providing a steady payroll.
Besides the Owen-Oregon plant,
three small sawmill are operating In
the Prospect district, and three or
four In the Siskiyou and Dead Indian
districts. They also operate under
the lumber code, and provide work
for between 199 and ISO men.
The picture of John B. Griffin's
old bear dog, Trailer, will be on dis
play at the Diamond Jubilee head
quarters, Mr. Qrlffln said today, and
It Is expected many persons will be
Interested In the photo, taken In
1011.
This dog, Mr. Orirtln said, holds
the record as the most famous bear
dog on the Pacific coast having
killed 138 bears on the coast and In
the Cascade range.
Trailer was taken to Alaska by
Crlt Tolman, who paid the dog's own
er S200 for the privilege. Tolman
reported on his return that the dog
had killed SO beare.
