Economics club of the Jacksonville
Grange will meet Wednesday after
noon at 2 o'clock at the Grange hall

Return to School Misses Mary
Snider and Ellen Endlcott, both stu
dents at the University of Oregon,
arrived In Medford Thursday to spend
several days with Mrs. Maude Snider.
They returned to the campus Sunday
night.

been ordered to report to Medford dis
trict headquarters. CCC, this week, ac
cording to word received today. They
are Captain Thomas Nugent Crowley,
Inf.-Res., of Los Angeles, and Cap
tain James Olln Wanzer, Engr-Res .

Lewis Called to Duty Second
Lieutenant Floyd Samuel Lewis, FA
Res., has been called to active duty
In the CCO, and will report to the
district headquarters in Eugene. Lewis
has been on duty In the Medford dis
trict as clerk, with company 1555,
now at Annie Springs.
Visits In North Mrs. George Wllkle
Is leaving this evening on the Ore
gonlan for Portland, from which olty
she will continue to the Bremerton
Navy Yard, Seattle, and other points
on a two weeks' visit. Upon her re
turn, she plans to visit her husband,
stationed at Dog lake, with the forest
service.
Planes Keep Schedule Unltd Air
Lines planes have been able to keep
the regular schedules, despite the ad
verse weather, offices at the local air
port announced today,
Volunteers Meet A volunteer fire
men's meeting was held here last
evening by the Medford fire depart
ment, but hose drill was not con
ducted, due to the rainy weather.
The Jacksonville firemen are expected
to attend the next meeting here, Firs
Chief Roy Elliott said today.
Accident Reported An accident at
the intersection of Newtown and King
was reported to city police this morn
ing by Everett Beeson of Talent and
Burt Huson of this city. Their autos
entered the intersection at the same
time, resulting In a badly damaged
fender on the Beeson car. The cause
was attributed to wet pavement.
Undergo Operations Helen Bush
underwent a major operation at the
Community hospital today and was
reported getting along satisfactorily
this afternoon, others undergoing
operations at the hospital today were
Mrs. J. B. Coleman of 1028 West
Tenth street and Wlllard Aldrlch of
320 Vancouver. .
New Pursuits Here Three new P-28
pursuit planes, for the United States
army, Just out of the Boeing factory,
were brought here Monday afternoon
by army fliers of March field. Cap
tain Albert 0. Foulk, piloting one of
the ships, is flight commander. The
other two pilots are Lieutenant M. M.
Murphy and Lieutenant Andrew S.
Solter. The trio continued the flight
to March field today.
GLEE AND BAND

In keeping' with National Music
week, the Boys' and Girls' Glee club,
under the direction of Miss Harriet
Baldwin and the band, under the
direction of T. Wilson Wait, will give
a Joint concert in the auditorium of
the senior high on South Oakdale
Thursday evening at 8 o'clock.
The Boys' Glee club will be fea
tured In a few special numbers, which
were sung during the southern Ore
gon music festival In Ashland two
weeks ago. The Girls Glee club will
also be featured in special numbers.
The two groups combined will present
n. trrntm of number.
I The program Is free to the public
and all citizens of Medford and resi
dents of this valley are urged to come
and hear the songs of the high school
students. The boys' and girls' glee
clubs combined total some 61 voices.

Chief Little Wolf, Navajo Indian,
Is expected to have a lot of fans
cheering for him Thursday evening
at the wrestling matches In the
armory when he climbs into the cir
cle to meet Bunny Martin. The lat
ter fought to a draw last week with
Paul Murdock.
Promoter Mack LUlard's card, as
scheduled for Thursday, will put
Murdock In the ring for the major
event carded with Pete Belcastro of
Sacramento, who has not been In
the Medford wrestling shows for
some time.
Chief Little Wolf, who appeared
here a- couple of weeks ago, won fa
vor with the large crowd.

There were 25 wives of doctors here
today from various sections of Ore
gon for the meeting of the executive
board of the Women's Auxiliary to
the State Medical society, which con
vened at the Presbyterian church this
morning. Portland, and Klamath and
Lane counties were well represented
at the meeting, which was opened by
Mrs. E. A. Woods of Ashland.
Chester Woods of Ashland enter
tained with a cello solo, accompanied
at the piano by his mother, and
prayer was led by Rev. Wra. J.
Howell of the First Presbyterian
church. The members were welcomed
to the city by W. S. Bolger, former
president of the Chamber of Com
merce, who extended greetings from
the organization and an Invitation to
all to attend the Diamond Jubilee
celebration June 3 to 0.

iaries, were heard.
Following the morning session the
guests continued to the attractive
home of Dr, and Mrs. Charles T.
Sweeney, Just north of the city, for
luncheon. A social afternoon fol
lowed and the women will be enter
tained tonight at a card party at the
home of Dr. and Mrs. R. W. Stearns
on East Main street.

At Local Academy
"The Mysterious Master" will ap
pear tonight at the St. Mary's acad
emy when the students of the school
present the operetta by that name at
8:15 o'clock.
Much time and preparation have
been put In by the pupils to make

GRANTS PASS SUSPECT
ARRESTED IN KLAMATH
KLAMATH FALLS, May 8. (AP)
Robert C. Umburn, wanted In connec
tion with the robbery of the Log
Cabin service station, 20 miles from
Grants Pass, was arrested here this
morning. Officers said Umburn ad
mitted taking 86.50 from the unlocked
cash register at the service station.

run at the Rialto theater today, pre
sents an expose of the difficulties and
crime prevalent in the high society
circles. Mary Astor has the role of
William's wife, not caring for his
affections particularly, but on the
other hand, refusing to give him up
to another. Little Dickie Moore and
Andy Devlne are also featured, the
former as William's son,, and the
gravel -throated comedian as the
chauffeur with whom William "does
the town."
Ben Hecht, who wrote "Underworld"
and "The Front Page," once again
brings his satirical pen into play with
this story of neglected husbands who
look elsewhere for pleasure when
wives find other means of Interest to
themselves.
