Playful Tabby Tampers
As Walker Team Putts
In St Andrews Practice
By OAY1.R
Associated Press
ST. ANDREWS. Scotland. May 3
cup team whose members thought they
Andrews, found a new one today In a ball-retrieving cat which interwrea
with one of their foursomes on the 17th green.
Captain Francis Oulmet, Lawson
Little, Johnny Fischer and Jack West
land had made their approaches and
were preparing to putt when the big
Persian tabby came tearing across the
road and took post near the cup.
Oulmet was the first to putt and
it looked like his ball was headed
right for the hole, but the cat
pounced on It and blocked it a dozen
feet away.
The stunt got a big laugh from the
orlmson-gowncd St. Andrews univer
sity students who apparently know
the cat's habits, but when It did the
same to West land's putt Little ran
over and grabbed tabby and hnnded
her to Harry W. Pierce, U. J3. G. A.
treasurer. He and Fischer then sank
their putts without interruption.
Despite the di struct i6n the four
some had a nice batch of scores. West-
land with a 74, FlBcher and Little
with 75s and Oulmet with a 78.
Ragged putting continued to be In
evidence and added strokes to every
card. Little three-putting five holes.

and George T. Dunlap, Jr., trailed
the first quartet. The oldsters. Egan

Dunlap scored 78 and Moreland had

largely due to a 7 and an 8 caused
by shooting for the wrong flag on
