make up the shipment. There will

Improper License Arthur Lambert,
arrested early this morning for alleg
edly operating a car bearing Califor
nia license, while employed In this
city, was to appear in justice court
on the charge this afternoon. The
arrest was made by state police.

Thompson of Central Point has traded
her Pine Tree service station for the
G. A. Baker home at 81 Church street.
Mr. Baker has taken possession of the
station and Mrs. Thompson moved to

to Central Point with Mr. Baker,
father of Mrs. Cotton. Mr. Cotton
has been operating the Porter service

Plan Recorder Change At a special
meeting of the city council held at
11 o'clock this morning, the matter
of making the office of city recorder
an appointive office rather than an
elective office, was discussed. City
Attorney Frank VanDyke was in
structed to prepare a resolution
amending the city charter for the
purpose of making the office of city
recorder an appointive rather than
an elective position. The matter is to
be brought before the people of Ash
land at the primary election. Ash

excuses of a German aviator who had

A Pole at Bydgoszcz (formerly
Bromberg) who attempted to snatch
a swastika emblem from a Germsn
soldier's grave was seized by a Polish

OLD TAHOE INN LOST
IN CONFLAGRATION
TAHOE CITY, April 25. (AP)
Fire that for a time endangered all
of Tahoe City today had reduced the
old Tahoe Inn to ashes and leveled
two other buildings.
The flames had been brought un
der control by volunteer workers,
aided by a change In direction of the
wind. Loss of the inn, a landmark
here, was partly covered by Insur
ance. 4

The Portland fire department Is con
tlnulng Its campaign to force Its
firemen to pay their bills.
W. H. Benedict was suspended from
the force 30 days Tuesday, the eighth
such suspension since the campaign
was undertaken.
Five of those previously ousted are
again at work after having arranged
with a credit association for debt
payment. Two refused to make such
an arrangement and were perma
nently discharged. They have ap
pealed to the civil service board.

SALEM, Ore. (UP) A Wisconsin
Inventor has notified the state for
estry department he .has produced a
chemical explosive bomb with which
to extinguish forest fires.
The bombs are dropped from air
planes as In warfare. The Inventor
claimed he could land bombs within
a designated 25-foot circle from an
altitude of 2000 feet. The bombs cost

Crown-Willamette Logging company,
was crushed to death by a rolling log
today. It waa the third logging acci
dent death in Clatsop county this
