Public Market October 3, 4, 5 and 0, through a plan presented to the Medrord Chamber of
Commerce by officlnls or the market. The plan, expected to attract all agriculturists of tne
Rogue River, valley, sets aside the dates mentioned as Jackson County days at the market
when produce from this region will be displayed and m1(I. the profits (o go to the Mrmers,
who supply the produce. The Portland public market opened Inst December 15 and occupies
the $1,100,000 building shown above. It is conceded to he the largest and most modern in
t-he world. A special committee will be named soon by the .Mcdtord Chamber of Commerce
to secure the co-operation ot farmers In the display and sale.

WASHINGTON, April 20. P) Sec
retary Morgenthau told reporters to
day that the manufacture of Illicit
liquors la still "a very husky indus
try." He said he planned to "hit and
hit it hard."
The treasury head explained the
department was "beginning to get In
terested In the Illicit manufacture"
of intoxicants because on May 10 the
old prohibition unit will be trans
ferred from the Justice department to
the bureau of industrial alcohol. That
la under the treasury.
Morgenthau disclosed revenue agents
already had started seizing stills and
Illegal spirits.
He said 73 stills were taken last
week throughout the country, along
with 84,000 gallons of spirits and 173,
000 gallons of mash valued at $17,000.
This Illegal, business, he said, ap
pears to be "as bad as it ever was."
On May 10, the force available to
stamp out the illegal liquor trade
will total about 1,500, of whom per
haps 750 will have been taken from
the Juctlce department.
The secretary said rum running
from the high seas was considerably
less than during the prohibition era.
He explained the number of vessels
sending liquor into the country from
both the Pacific and Atlantic Is far
less.

L. Meier has issued a statement to the
people of Oregon. ThJ statement fol
lows: "I commend to the attention of
the citizens of Oregon. "All Oregon
Products Days" irom April 20 to April
28, Inclusive. We have all heard-many
times the message that by supporting
the products of Oregon farms, forests
and factories, we can do much to
promote the progress and prosperity
of our ystate.
"Increase In the use and distribu
tion of Oregon product means the
stimulation of industry and the ex
pansion of payrolls. Expanding the
payrolls means better home markets
for our surplus products, and these,
too, mean Increased presperlty for cur
state and Increased well-being for our
people.
" 'All Oregon Products Days' will
give merchants a chance to acquaint
the public with the high quality and
favorable price of Oregon-made and
Oregon-grown merchandise. The pub
lic, In turn, will learn of the products
that keep our manufacturing -plants
in operation and maintain -our-luro
ber, agricultural, fishing, and other
industries.
"State-wide pride in Oregon prod
ucts and a state-wide determination
that, price and quality being equal,
we will use the output of our own
Industries will do much to speed the
return to normal prosperity.
"I earnestly urge that buyers and
sellers alike will enter Into a whole
hearted observance of 'All Oregon
Products Days' and that the beneficial
effects of this observance will make
themselves felt throughout the year

emulsion arsenate of lead spray Is

gallon light type summer oil emul
sion, plus one-half pound spreader.
