The first wallops by this pair of
rivals as they met at Philadelphia
yesterday, provided toe high spots of
the second day of the campaign, but
there were plenty of other good Jobs
done on the ball field, Including a

Neither Hafey nor Bonura could
bring victory by his feat. The Reds
got only four blows off Quy Bush

to the Cubs, 8 to 4, as the Chicago

SALMON SHY IN
SUNNY WEATHER
GRANTS PASS, April 10. (8pl.)
Trout fishing In Rogue river continues
to be exceptionally good, but salmon
fishing is "the bunk," looM anglers
said Wednesday.
The reason was explained by Joe
Wharton, who seems to understand
the piscatorial mind pretty well. He
said salmon don't like to travel when
the water la clear and the weather
bright, so they lie In dep dark pools
during the day, swimming upstream
slowly at night. Hence, It takes them
three weeks to travel aa far during
the present weather conditions as they
generally make In three days, Whar
ton said.
"Conditions conducive to good trout
fishing are not conducive to good sal
mon fishing," Wharton said, "but the
salmon are there, and they'll be com
ing faster When the weather changes."

JUNIORS WIN
31-22 FROM MEDFORD
ASHLAND, April 10. (Spl.) A good
sized crowd of Junior high students
saw Ashland Junior high baseball
team defeat Med ford Junior high, 31
to 23, Thursday evening. This wrts
the highest scoring baseball game the
local team ever played. The rough
and uneven condition of the playing
field accounted for the. majority of
errors both teams made. All ground
balls were extremely difficult to field.
Ashland used three pitchers. Scott,
Warren and Bailey, in an effort to
hold the Medford batters in check.1
Of the three cllttle Chas. Warren was!
by far the most sucessful. Medford
used two pitchers. '
