delle weighed around 160 pounds.
Miss Sparks, about 170 pounds, a light

women were known to quite a num
ber of Medford people, having demon
strated beauty products In a local
department store last October.

of George Pcckham, local singer, and
had written to him that she and Miss
Mardelle planned to be In Medford
November 13. Miss Sparks had known
him In Hollywood, where they had
appeared together In songs.
The discovery of the bodies of the
ill-fated women solves one of the
most puzzling southern Oregon, if
not Pacific coast, mysteries In years.
Officers had never given up the
search. Park authorities put forth
every effort to locate them in their
area, from which the girls were driv
ing away when they wrecked.
I
BASIC OBJECTIVE
OF W. C. T.
The Women's Christian Temperance
Union was not organized to write
the 18th amendment Into the consti
tution of the United States, but to
annihilate liquor traffic, and the lat
ter Is still the objective of the organi
zation was the message brought to
Medford today by Mrs. Ada Jolley of
Portland, state president of the
W. C. T. U., in an address before
the local Institute, In session at the
First Presbyterian church.
The national slogan of the organi
zation for this year Is "We will not
quit until liquor traffic quits," Mrs.
Jolley added, explaining that mem
ben of the organization are not dis
couraged by repeal of prohibition, but
taking new Interest In the future
campaign.
The program for the new crusade
to be waged by her organization, Mrs.
Jolley stated, will be strictly an edu
cational one, aimed to educate peo
ple against the use of alcohol. She
urged each woman In the organiza
tion to live a life of service and of
action In order that the group may
be a power, not alone In knowing,
but In dispensing, information on
the scientific effects of alcohol.
The W. C. T. U. Is opposed to alco
holic consumption In any and every
form, Mrs. Jolley declared, explain
ing that she considered beer aa harm
ful as whiskey, since Its deterioration
of the human system Is usually a
constant one. The whiskey drinker,
she added, may get drunk once a
month, then give his system a chance
to become free of the poison, while
the beer drinker adds a little more
to the condition each day.
The return of liquor to the nation
last December 5th, the speaker de
scribed as the "greatest kidnaping"
of all. "It will steal you away from
business, church, society, neighbors,
friends, relatives and family." Mrs.
Jolley then described Jiquor as a
gangster, a robber of reason and con
science. Mrs. Jolley will speak tonight at
Talent and tomorrow night at the
tabernacle on Sixth street, going on
to Ashland for meetings Saturday and
Sunday.
