years old, passed away after a lin
gering Illness nt the state hospital In
Salem several days ago. Through
some error in the address , the wire
did not reach Mrs. Alters until yes
terday and after calling for the mes-j
sage at the telegraph office she be
came so hysterical that quit a crowd
gathered, among them Mrs. Oarnett,
who bundled the woman Into her car
and proceeded to find out what was
the matter.
Both the county court and the
HtxX Crow were visited, but nothing
could be done, so Mrs. Oarnett pro
ceeded to get busy. She Communi
cated with a local undertaker, who
agreed to furnish everything at cost,
and then herself a breed to be per
sonally responsible for any expense
which might be incurred, so a wire
to this eifect was sent to Salem.
