PAIL 10 REPORT
Reports say the Rogue has gone
down some, but with mining opera
1 1 oris on Evans creek keeping the
stream muddy. It was expected that
few would be able to bring home
much proof that today opened the
trout season.
Many local people were spending
today on the streams In southern Ore
gon, but early this afternoon no re
ports of successful fishermen with
trout had been received. Henry
Prlngle and Bill Walker each brought
In a ateelhead this morning, Walker
getting his near the Elks picnic
ground.
Sevan state police of this district
were checking licenses of fishermen
today.
Mr. and Mrs. O. M. Murphy are out
fishing today and Jao-k Walker and
Harry GUI planned a trip for this
afternoon, as did Jack Blerma and
Sandy Westercrren.
Dr. R. O. Mulholland, who hasn't
missed the first day of the senson
for many years, found It necessary
to remain In his office today. "I
have other teeth to grind," the doctor
said, and was anxiously awaiting news
from the waterfront to see If there
would be any of the finny tribe left
In the brook for him.

Continuing to talk shop, Mencken
averred that Bngiiah newspapers

"For one thing." he said, "the Eng.

City Editors All Crazy. i
He said he did not Intend to re
turn to the editing of a magazine.
"I'm too old," he said. "It has
always been my contention that every
olty editor ought to be shot at the
age of 35. A man's got to be crazy
to be a city editor, anyway."
He shed a tear for what he called
"the poor pious Jews In this coun
try who save their nickels to send to
Palestine."
"Religion la adjourned In Pales
tine," he said.
He predicted that In another 20
years there would e "another big
rumpus which will end with a man
on horseback."
"America," he said, "Is headed for
something new and worse than Fas
cism. In fact, Fascism will look like
a Boy Scout movement In comparison
with what we will get. We'll end,
too, with a man on Horseback,"
ALEXANDRIA, La., April 5. (AP)
Jack Dempsey lost a ring battle
here last night. Worse than that, he
was forced Into lgnomlnous retreat
from the scene of the contest. It
all happened as the ex-heavy weight
champion was refereelng a heavy
weight wrestling match and the 95
pound wife of one of the participants
climbed Into the roped square and
took a hand in the proceedings.
Dempsey lost his shirt and a good
deal of hair.
Mrs. Johnny Plummer, whose hus
band was tying up with Bruce Noland
In the feature of a mat card, gave
the fans the unexpected extra thrill
when she challenged the former pu
gilistic king and won at least a tem
porary victory.
It all started when Dempsey warned
Plummer that he would not allow any
kicking of Noland when the latter
was on the floor. One thing led to
another and Referee Dempsey closed
the argument by delivering three
quick uppr-cuts to the chin, which
ended the evening's entertainment
for Plummer.
But not for Mrs. Plummer. She
was through the ropes from her ring
side seat in a second and going after
Dempsey's shirt and his hair before
anybody could do anything about It.
Dempsey retreated as far as the ropes
would allow and stood there for a
while, proving he could still take It,
without raising a' hand In defense.
When Mrs. Plummer really got organ
ized, however, Dempsey slipped
through the ropes and retreated Into
the crowd.
Although only 28 years of age, Mrs.
W. O. West brook of New Bern, N. C,
Is a grandmother.
