rescue student self-government from
threatened, collapse because of the
recently ordered "optional fee plan"
which leaves the associated students
only 38 per cent of their expected
Income.
The attorney general has ruled
that the associated students may not
Impose fees on students at the In
stitutions of higher learning.

EUGENE, March 29. (AP) Ap
proximately half of the students reg
istering at the University of Oregon
voluntarily paid the 15 fee for mem
bership In the Associated Students,
M was announced yesterday by uni
versity officials. Payment of the
fee Is now optional due to a recent
ruling of the attorney general that
the Institution could not collect It
unless volunteered by the student.
A total of 1880 students had com
pleted registration last night and
1839 had taken put registration ma
terial, Last year at this time a to
, tal of 1863 had taken out material.
At the close of registration last
. night 47.1 per cent of those com
pleting registration had elected to
pay the (0 fee and 83.9 had stated
they did not wish to pay It, A few
students from this Inttcr group came
In today and paid the additional fee,
however, stating that w.hcn thoy re
alized the number of activities they
would miss they preferred to pay the
five dollars.

chorus and organ. There will also
be special numbers by the woman s
quartet and men's chorus. The pub

BAVARIAN JEWS DIE
BERLIN, March 39. (AP) A vio
lent anti-Semitic demonstration at
Qunzonhausen in Bavaria was report
ed today to have resulted In the
death of two Jewa one committing
suicide by hanging and the other dy
ing from four kntfo wounds,
Eleven Jews were arrested during
the demonstrations, reported to have
been staged by Nazi storm troopers
Sunday after a Jew expectorated on
a trooper's uniform.
Dr. Mayes has returned and resumed
practice.
