Southern Oregon District Ep worth
League convention, held In Roseburg
March 0, 10 and 11, was attended by
fifteen Medford delegates, who won
the banner for the lsrgest mileage at
tendance.
About ninety delegates were pres
ent from all parts of southwestern
Oregon, and entertainment was pro
vided on the Harvard plan by the
Roseburg people.
Friday evening a banquet was held
In the Methodist Episcopal church,
delegates being welcomed by Harold
Closk, president ot the Roseburg Ep
worth Lesgue; Paul Geddes, repre
senting tbe Methodist Episcopal
church; Mayor J. E. Mocuntock, and
Rev. M. A. Groves, district president
The evening service was under the
direction of Rev. E. O. Ranton, with
the address by Dr. Thomas D. Yarnet
Saturday morning, classes were held
in personal problems and department
al work.
Lunch waa served by th Roseburg
league, and In the afternoon a dletnot
business meeting wu held, colonel
Tandy escorted the delegates through
th Northwest Nstlonal soldiers'
home.
A picnic supper wu served at the
church. The delegetea presented 1m
nromntu skits with Institute, the
summer camp, as ' the theme. Dr,
Yarne prealded at th installation ot
officers.
Sunday morning the convention wu
closed with Sunday school snd spe
olal church services.

ed by Elno Hemmlla, manager of
the Rlalto theater, from an aunt now
living at Kommunt Tyo, Russia.
Her husband, formerly engaged la
business upstate, left for Russia
when the depression came, to find
a Utopia, and the letter telle much
between the llnea. It Is, In part, as
follows:
"I am going to try and get a few
lines written to you. We ar quit
busy over here, like they always ar
on a farm. And that's what thla
place Is an Immense farm. There
are about 300 people. 126 oows, 60
horses. X don't know how many pigs,
sheep, rabbits, chickens. One big
building and other ones for living
quarters, and all are crowdtd. All
klnda of outside building', a saw
mill, blacksmith shop, sloe maker
shop, tailor ahop, carpenter shop, ev
erything. Nothing but work mor
than we can do. .
"Immense kitchens and dining
rooms, with all the food we can eat,
but It's too thin; It loesn't stay with
us. We are hungry soon after eat
ing. I wish I had not come, and I
might come back next summer or
spring. If I don't come then I won't
come at all. Did you have turkey .
for Thanksgiving?
"That Is, If I pull through thla
summer. I'm kind of run down. W
have had anow and cold weather for
a month, or rather the weather has
been cold since August, and I've had
a cold ever slnoe we came here. It'a
so lonesome here; there's nothing to
