Active plans are being' made for
the state convention to meet In this
city May 31, 33 and 33, which will
bring more than 100 delegates to
Medford from the various chapters In
the principal cities of Oregon.

Legion Auxiliary
At the regular meeting of the W, C.
T. U. Thursday afternoon, Mrs. E. A.
Oldenburg gave a report of the re
gional conference held In Portland, at
which she and Mrs. Augusta McCor
mlck, county president, were dele
gates. State president Mrs. Ada Jol
ley presided at the conference. Mrs.
Margaret Munns, a national officer
and Marlon Miller of the Oregonlan,
were chief speakers. Mrs. Jolley is to
visit Jackson county unions In April
when a county Institute will be held
In Ashland.
The devotional service was led by
Mra. E. N. Long. She took as her
theme. "Trust" and closed with a solo
accompanied by Mrs. Welch. Mrs.
Minnie Bryant was program chairman
presenting a program planned espe
cially for the younger women, several
being guests, Mrs. Floyd Jenkins gave
a humorous reading, "Getting the
ew organ". Mrs. s. L. Leonard spoke
briefly on the work and alms of the
W. C. T. U. Members accepted with
regret Mrs. Leonard's resignation as
W. C. T. U. treasurer, an office which
she has filled very ably for a number
of years. Mra. E. S. Hltzler was cho
sen as the new treasurer. Mrs. Quy
Cox reported a growing membership
in the L. T. L. and showed a quilt
made by the girls.
Refreshments were served at the
close of the program.
Methodist Missionary
Society to Meet
The Woman's Home Missionary so
ciety of the First M, E. church will
meet Tuesday afternoon at the home
of Mrs. J. W. Smylle.
Merit Circle
Meets Tuesday.
The Merit Circle of "the Presbyto
rlan church will meet for one o'clock
luncheon on Tuesday at the home of
Mrs. R. S. Daniels, 407 Park avenue.

Invited to Party
The Grants Pass American Legion
and Auxiliary will entertain Thurs
day evening, March 15, and have in
vited for the ocaslon members of the
Medford Legion and Auxiliary. The
party is scheduled for 8 o'clock in the
Legion hall In the neighboring city.

Manufacture of memorial popples
for the American Legion Auxiliary's
poppy day, May 26 Is reaching large
scale production according to Mrs.
Belva Aiken, poppy chairman of the
local unit. The little red flowers are
being made by disabled veterans
working In government hospitals and
auxiliary workrooms In many parts of
the country.
Ten million popples are expected to
be made for the auxiliary this year.
The work will give employment to
hundreds of men who are unable to
do other work, and will continue thru
the spring. Wages of approximately
$100,000 will be paid, and the balance
of the money received In poppy day
contributions will be used in the re
lief and rehabilitation work of the
Legion and Auxiliary.
The Choral club will moot at the
home of Mrs. Wymore, Monday eve
ning. March 13. at 1:15. ,
A large crowd Is expected at the
Legion dance to be held at the Orlen

WEEK OF ACTIVITY
The coming week promises to be
a heavy one for Legion and Auxiliary
members, starting Monday evening
with the regular meeting at the ar
mory. Comrade Earl Foy has been
rather busy getting his state liquor
store established, but promises novel
and Interesting entertainment for
the Legion.
Thursday. March 15, is the 15th
anniversary of the founding of the
American Legion throughout the na
tion Legion and Auxiliary posts will
observe this date with a dinner, dance
or similar celebration. Medford post
and auxiliary unit are Invited to
Join with other towns of Jackson and
Josephine county for a big time,
starting at 8:00 p. m., and the Ameri
can Legion hall in Grants Pass, with
members of Grants Pass post as hosts.
All members are urged to attend and
a good time Is promised.
Saturday night the Legion's big St.
Patrick's day dance at the Oriental
Gardens with Dynge's orchestra winds
up a busy week with what should be
the best Legion dance In many
months.

to be held here In June, la found in
the current Issue of the Oregon Club
woman, a magazine with a circula
tion of 4000.
The copy Is written about a paint

pire." by Philip B. Limdstrom. Re
produced on the full page with an
invitation to the Jubilee, It forms an
attractive display. The copy reads:
"Diamond Jubilee In June, Oregon
will celebrate her Diamond Jubilee.
The birthday party has been sched
uled for southern Oregon with Med
ford and Jacksonville as hosts. All
Oregon Is Invited, and all Oregon will
celebrate."
The advertisement was placed by

BELLVIEW, March 10 (Spl.) The
golden wedding anniversary of Mr.
and Mrs. J. A. McCause was the oc
casion for a community gathering at
the club house of the Upper Valley
Community club last Sunday. About
100 friends from this district, Ash
land and the Nell Creek dlstrtct en
joyed a basket dinner, and others
called during the afternoon to con
gratulate the bride and groom.
Mian Eunice Hagar, accompanied by
Miss Doris Hitchcock at the piano,
sang "I Love You Truly." after which
a mock wedding ceremony was per
formed by children front the Bell
view school, dressed In old-fashioned
costumes. Mr. and Mrs. R. E. Boll
sang two duets. "Put on Your Old
Gray Bonnet" and "Silver Threads
Among the Gold."
The tables were decorated with
flowers of golden hues and the huge
wedding cake was of golden color.
A potted plant with golden blossoms
was presented to the honored guests.
Edwin Dunn, Fred Homes, Mr. and
Mrs. Meservey, Mrs. Archie Ktncald,
Chas, Anderson. R. E. Bell and Oeorgo
Andrews responded with short talks
when called upon by the toastmaater,
C. B. Lamkln.
During the afternoon, Mrs. Edwin
Dunn sang "When You and I Were
Young. Maggie."
Mrs. Chas. Anderson, Mrs. Roy
Burrus, Mrs. Claude Con ley and Mra,
Gowl&nd were the friends who plan
ned this happy affair for Mr. and
Mrs. McCause.
In June Mr. and Mrs. McCause are
going to LaGrande, their old home,
to celebrate their 50th anniversary
with thetr children, who live in and
near LaGrande.
