FOR COUNTY TAX!
The Weyerhaeuser Timber company
yesterday remitted to the tat collec
tion department of the sheriffs of
fice Its check for 129.412.81, in pay
ment cf 1931-1942 taxes In Jackson
county, it was the largest single
ta payment of the year. The tim
ber covered by the tax pajment is
located In eastern jacksor. county
near the Klamat,h county line.
Tli new state law ft ran tin a re
bates tor full payment has increased
individual tax payments, and corpo
rations are also taking advantage of
the provisions. Most of the payments
to date have been from smalt land
and home owners. Government
checks are numerous In the pay
ments. Quite a number of payments , are
for both this and last year. Last
year tax payments ,hit a low mark,
due to the bard times and the urg
ing of local demagogues; "Don't pay
your taxes." The state law also made
tax dodging easy.
It is expected that this year will
see the heaviest paying of taxes on
timber lands since 1929. The" county
financially harassed welcomes the
coiri. It will aid in the payment of
outstanding warrants and indebted
ness and the .high expense Incurred
by murder and ballot theft trials,
and the county commissary.
