by Club at Home
of Mrs. Hammond
Mrs. Robert Hommond was a
charming hostess to members of the
book club Friday. Scotland being the
topic of the day. a Scotch luncheon
was served at 1 o'clock. A bowl of
pink heather formed the centerpiece
of the table and -be menu was com
posed of typically Scotch dishes, de
lightfully different.
The program consisted of Scotch
ballads on piano and radio. An Inter
esting talk on Scotland was given by
Mrs. E. A. Moore and a biography of
' Mary, Queen of Scots, by Mrs. Glen
Fa brick.
Friday, March 16. the club will
study Ireland.

day evening at the home of Mrs.
Darell Huson, 45 Llndley, It has been
announced. Assisting her as .host
esses will be Miss Emily Brown and
Miss Margaret Morrison.

view the book. "Eastern Women."

of the program and decorations, and

The Medford Garden club an
nounces that P. H. Reum will speak
on the planting of bulbs at the next
meeting of the club, the flrat Thurs
day In March. A plant sale will be
held by the club in the near future
and everyone is asked to save all
extra plants for this sale. The time
and place are to be announced later.

Enjoy Meeting
at Frame Home
The College Women's club of the
Rogue River valley met at the home
of Mrs. R. w. Frame at Phoenix. Sat
urday afternoon. '
The meeting was called to order by
the vice-president. Mrs. Billings, the
president being in Portland. After
the routine busiriewt was dispatched,
the glee club of the Phoenix high
school was introduced and under -he
direction of Mts Patterson, sang sev
eral numbers. Mrs. Nye was accom
panist. Mrs. P. D. Wagner, who had charge
of the Collegian, then introduced Mrs.
Ellen Wiltshire, who read a very fine
paper on "Radio." The ladles then
had the pleasure of listening to a
radio play, "Over the Coffee Cup,"
written by Miss Helen Norris, and
read by Mrs. P. D. Wagner.
Mrs. Frame and Miss Burr poured.
Assisting Miss Dorothy Corliss in
serving were Mrs. Canfield, Mrs. Ethel
Willets and Miss Gertrude Waltzllng.
The next meeting will be held at
the home of Mrs. M. E. Root. March i

Jackson Celebrates
The Jackson school Parent-Teacher
association celebrated Founders day
Friday afternoon at the school with
the mothers of new pupils as special
guests. Pupils of the 1-A and 2-B
classes opened the program. Mrs.
Short, president of the Parent-Teach
er council, gave a talk on the found
ing of the organization.
An impressive candle lighting ser
vice was held with the past presr
dents, officers and teachers partici
pating. Tea was served later and I
generous sliver offering made.
Daddy's Mplit Observed
Friday night an interesting pro
gram was presented at -Washington
school In celebration of Daddy'
night. A good attendance of parents
enjoyed the affair and an enlighten
ing talk on school finances was given
by E. H. Hedrlck. superintendent.
Mrs. Hopkins was chairman of the
program for the evening and commu
nity singing was led by Mrs. Elsie
Carleton Strang with Mrs. Warren
Butler accompanying at the piano.
The fern went to Mrs. Maxwell's room
the pupils In which brought the
createst number of fathers to the
program.
Following the program refresh
ments were served by Mrs. Goodwin
Humphrey and her committee.

The Washington Parent-Teacher
association held a Founders Day Tea
Friday afternoon.
A delightful program of folk songs
dances and readings by the children
had been prepared by the teachers
and was enjoyed by the large number
of mothers present.
A candle lighting ceremony In com
memoration of Founder s Day follow
ed the program. In which Martha
Jane Cool lighted the candle for tne
children. Mrs. Geo. B. Canode for the
teachers, Mrs. Jack Heyland for the
association and Mrs. Volney Dixon for
the earlier days of Pa rent -Teacher
work. -
It was announced that the Boy
Scout troupe sponsored by the Wash
ington association had won two
awards at the Fathers and Sons ban
qet. the handicraft award, for making
the best table centerpiece and the
Roosevelt award.
Tea was served following the meet
ing. Tables were arranged in the
hall. Mrs. Holloway and Mrs. Dixon
presided at the tea tables and Mrs.
Fichtner cut and served the large
blrthdny cake which she had made
for the occasion.
The committee in charge of the tea
included Mrs. Coffeen, Mrs. Tiernan,
Mrs. Latham and Mrs. Hamilton.
" Mrs. Stubblefleld, together with the
teaching force, was' responsible for
the splendid program.

for covered dish luncheon and busi

the first of next week, although the

not be strictly adhered to because
of a lack of funds, It was announced
through the Medford Garden club
today.
The county court and the Garden

to the planting, voicing their appre
ciation of the splendid co-operation

progress during 1933 in removing
menaces to livestock and poultry.
