A report of the work accomplished
for tb city through the Civil Works
administration for the month of
January was presented to the city
council last night by city Superin
tendent Fred Bcheffel. It showed
that the Medford airport project.
orlginalH approved, la now 81 per
cent complete. Sixty per cent of the
pipe for drainage trenches has been
laid and excavation for the runway
is 70 per oent complete.
The widening of the Bear creek
channel and erection of a retaining
wall la more than half completed and
00 per cent of the street work ap
proved, has been done. Work Is now
starting on the straightening of East
Main, which will complete this pro
grsm. Sixty pr cent of the work provided
in the Prescott Memorial park has
been completed and 300 street signs
have been erected. The old rails from
the Jacksonville railroad are being
utilised in this project, Mr. Scheffel
stated.

Community hospital at Ashland
where he underwent an operation
last pitrht for the removal of some
glass from his neck, as the result of
an automobile accident on the Nell
creek road at 8:10 a, m. Wednesday,
according to a report made at the
state police headquarters today.
Robinson was traveling north In
the automobile driven by Frank. E.
Rochel, also of Hamilton Field, when
they made a sharp turn on the high
way to avoid striking the Ashland
school bus which picks up the chil
dren ln the O re en Springs district.
The Rochel car struck a tree.
According to state officers, R. A.
Miller, driver of the school bus, had
not driven off the highway when he
stopped the bus to pick up some
children, becauso of tho soft shoulder.
Rochel made the sharp turn to avoid
striking the bus, officers said.
Although Rochel was not seriously
Injured, Robinson suffered cuts on
the had, and severe body bruises.
Both men were thrown from the car
by the Impact.

of Camp Carherry waa a visitor here
last week. Mr. Hoover was super

Petitions were presented, providing
for the improvement planned on East
Main street from Bartlett to River
side and from Riverside to the bridge,
and were referred to the street and
roads committee. A delegation In the
interests of this project, headed by
Dr. B. R. Elliott, appeared before the
council to announce that the signa
ture had been obtained.

A petition from resident of Court
street, asking for paving of that sec
tion, was also presented, and a letter
from the county court, asking coop
eration of the city In completion of
this much needed piece of paving,
waa read. The whole matter was re
ferred to the street and road com

Attorney N. C. Chaney appeared be
fore the council, representing Harry
Purch. who presented a request to
removal of hi used car business from

aide. A delegation from the local
Auto Dealer' association was . also
present regarding the same request.

half the expense of the trip.
Councilman Dade Terrett presented
a petition from property owner on
West Fourth and Summit street, ask
ing for erection of a street light. The
committee report was favorable and
the request was granted.

dramatic leader, announced that the
con teat play, ' The Dear Departed,"
would be given February 30 at 8 p.
m. In the Bellvlaw club house. The
play will be Judged at this time. The
cast Includes Edwin Dunn. Mrs. Ada
Andrews, Floyd Carter, Mrs. Bertha
Wallls, Mrs. Delta Inlow and Walter
Longstreet.
It waa announced there wilt be
dance at the club house the evening
of February 9.
