way, and men chop them Into wood
which Is stacked up and trucked Into
camp for use In the kitchen and var
loua building. Bruah cut down Is
burned by the men to make the clear
ing for the bulldozer, which outs the
ledge Into the side of the hill. In the
territory where large rock formatlone
are found, bleating Is necessary.
In the construction of the road
large rocks end other Impedimenta
are removed by the bulldozer on a
large tractor. A grade Is then made
for the ditch to crown the surface
and establish drainage. Gravel Is then
placed on the road for the surface.
Between 60 and 70 men are on
duty on the road project dally, and
work Is progressing rapidly in com
pletlon of the road.
On new road, leading up the Salt
creek territory has been completed
In the same area, and will serve as
the main way, from whloh branch
roada will be built Into the country.

Announcing the restoration of the
appropriation for predatory animal
control In this district, a letter has
been received from Congressman
James E. Mott, addressed to T. E.
Uanlela. chairman of the committee
on wild life conservation of the cham
ber of commerce.
It reads:
With further reference to your
letter of January 37th, I am glad
to advlae you that as a result of
of our conference Saturday with
the director of the budget the
director announced thla morning
that he would recommend to the
committee an appropriation for
predatory animal control equal to
the amount, expended laat year
for thla work. Thla amount will
be more than 3B0,OO0.
The amount previously recom-
mended by the director of the
budget was 101,000.

tive debate team defeated the Klam
ath Union high achool affirmative
here February 1. In practice de

The arguments of Dorothy Price
and Bob Llnd, who composed the
Klamath affirmative, were unable- to
stand against the constructive state
ments of Irene Stubblefleld nnd
Mildred Drury, the Medford negative.
Mildred Drury Is a newcomer In
debate and has been making good
her first year out.
Medford won the debate through
their solid arguments against the
British radio system and their ex
cellent delivery. The best work of
the Klamath debaters wu In rebuttal.
This debate was on of a aerlec
of practice debates held to give the
squad actual experience in speaking
Iwfore an audience. On February 14,
Medford will begin the season with
her first real debate. On that date
the debate team will meet Grants
Pass. The second debate will be with
Ashland, February 16.
The first of the practice debates
waa held before the Jackson Orange
when the Medford affirmative com
posed of Dolph Janea and Cleo
Hicks, met the Medford negative,
Mildred Drury and Irene Stubble
fleld. The decision, which was made
by the audience, waa in favor of
the negative. At Eagle Point a nega
tive team, Irene Stubblefleld and
Betty Thorndlke, debated with the
same affirmative. The audience also
decided this meet and gave their vote
to the affirmative. .
The third practice debate was held
at Phoenix. Dolph Janes and Cleo
Hicks, affirmatives, debated Mildred
Drury and Irene Stubblefleld. The
audience voted for the negative.

The following statement has been
received by all state administrators
of the CWA from national head
quarters and waa released by the
day.
Jackson county committee Satur
day: In order to meet the demands mad
on thla office by the flood of corres
pondence now totstlng many thoua-
anda of letters per day, a special
correspondence and research depart
ment has been established under
competent direction.
In spite of the great variety of
correspondence, letters do fall within
several general classifications. Just
now, from every part of the United
States we are swamped with lettera
complaining of discharge In one
form or another. These letters ap
peal for assistance from this central
office.
All state administrators are aware
of the fact that a questionnaire was
mailed out on January 2nd seeking
information that would enable us to
establish wltb all of tfc states regu-
