cn.mlr.ed here in connection with
the slaying yesterday of Alfred Katt-
ner, who turned state's evidence in
high treason proceedings against
Ernst Ghaelmann, a Communist
leader.

Orange Soup,
(Yes, that's the name) .
3 oranges
1 lemon
3 cups water
teaspoon lemon rind
1 cup sugar
3 egg yolks
1 tableipoon butter.
Strain the fruit Juices, add the
grated rind and sugar. Beat the yolks
and add the melted butter slowly.
Pour the water and Juices onto the
beaten eggs and cook In double
boiler until smooth. Chill and .serve
In cups. Decorate with grated orange
rind, nutmeg or a dash of whipped
cream.
Cherry Soup.
1 qt. light cherries
1 qt. water
4 up sugar
a tablespoons sago
1 teaspoon cinnamon
4 lemon, sliced fine
a yolks of eggs
1 tablespoon butter.
Cook the sago In one cup of boil
ing water until tender, add more If
necessary, until done. Boll fruit
Juice, water, "sugar with the cinna
mon and lemon, about IB minutes;
add cooked sago then pour gradually
over the well beaten egg yolks. Chill
and serve cold.

Crabflsb Cream soup.
3 cups crabmeat
3 tablespoons butter
1 quart hoi milk
8 tablespoons flour
1 cup cream
Salt, pepper
Paprika.
Pour one cup of boiling water over
the flab then add both to tbs hot
milk. Mix the flour with a portion
of the cream until a smooth pasta
results, add the remainder of the
cream and mix with the soup, stir
ring until all is smooth. Season to
taste and cook five minutes. Serve
hot with toasted cheese crackers.
Celery Soup.
. 1 bunch of celery
1 cup meat stock
a tablespoons butter
3 tablespoons flour .
3 cups milk
1 teaspoon salt. ,
Wash, string and cut the celery fine.
Boll slowly until tender and very lit
tle water is left on the celery. Make
a cream sauce of butter, salt, flour
and milk then combine with the meat
stock and celery. Serve hot with
cheese crackers or pretzels. (Use a
bouillon cube In a cup of boiling
water If no other stock la available.)
Baron and Olive Appetizers.
Wrap large stuffed olives In thin
slices of bacon and broil until bacon
Is crisp. Serve on toothpicks while
hot. Pineapple Appetiser.
Orl very thin triangles of toast
place a thin layer of chopped ham
or chicken combined with crushed
pineapple and a little mayonnaise.
Sprinkle with a dash of orange rind,
grated.
Cheese and- Salmon Appetizers.
Slice cheese thin and cut In small i
clrclea about one and one-half Inches j
in diameter. Spread with flaked sal
mon which Is dampened with lemon
Juice and a little mayonnaise. Cover I
with a like circle and press together. J
Sprinkle with chopped parsley and a
little paprika.
Ired Fruit Cocktail.
Equal parts of
Pineapple, peach, pear, apricot
1 small bottle maraschino cherries.
Save one cherry to top each glasa.
Dice all the other fruits together,
pour the Juices over all and chill
thoroughly.
Grapefruit Cocktail. I
Use either fresh or canned grape
fruit. If fresh fruit ts used peel aa
you do an apple and remove all akin
for the sections. Prepare an orange
In the same manner and sprinkle
them with powdered sugar. Chill. Add
a little grape wine flavoring to the
Juice to pour over the fruit which Is
arranged In dish or on flat serving
plate with one orange alios between
four slices of grapefruit (two slices
of grapefruit then one orange and
on.) !

the groundhog had a thick white
carpet to walk on today as he went
about his annual chore of determin
ing the weather for the next six
weeks.
A heavy snowfall yesterday and last
night hampered traffic today ove-:
much of the east. Snow or rain had
fallen In sizeable quantities in the
Oreat Lakes region, the Ohio vai'.ev.
the Atlantic states, the Gulf states i
and along the North Paoific coast.

The groundhog's decision depended
