week as Clyde Nell Is, regular employe,

able to work for a' week as a result of

lenburg of the Oregon National Guard
has returned to Medford from a week's
trip through eastern Oregon on a fed
- eral Inspection of the guard units.
He resumed his duties at the Oregon
state police office here today.

Reames, who is head of the federal
business census for this district, left
on the Shasta this morning for Grants
pass, to attend to business matters

plans to continue to Eugene and
Marshfleld before returning here.
Open Study Tonight The Weekly
Bible class meeting at the Y. W. C. A.
tonight will begin the study of the
New Ttestament, under the Instruc
tion of Mrs. E. N. Warner. The four
gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke and
John will be compared. , The class

Transferred Here Captain Harry
E. Cooper, who has been on duty at
Cape Sebastian CCC camp, has been
transferred to Camp South Fork of
the Rogue River, to fill the vacancy
occurring with the removal of Cap
tain W. R. Church to headquarters
for temporary duty.

Bromley In Medford State High
way Engineer J. G. Bromley of Grants
Pass Is in Medford today going over
the records of the telephone right-of-way
of the forestry service, on the
Crater Lake highway. A new line Is
being built, and Mr. Bromley was ob
taining the information at the Rogue

haven in this country from American
authorities, who seek to return him
to Chicago for trial.

Ann Harding has the role of a
woman plastic surgeon who has spent
all her time making other women
beautiful for men to admire and not
looking for romance herself In "The
Right to Romance." opening a three
day engagement at the Craterian
theater today.
She finds what she believes Is love
with a wealthy young playboy, but
after marriage comes the realization
that temperamental differences make
the union Impossible. The breaking
point come when she meets her hus
band's sweetheart and matters are
even further complicated by an acci
dent leaving the rival's face badly
marred. The problem is whether to
bring back to beauty of the girl or
fail In the delicate operation so that
the love-thief will no longer be a bar
rier to happiness.

Big Double Bill
Opens At Studio
It's all aboard for "The Silk Ex
press," which arrived today on the
big double feature program at the
Studio theater, loaded wtih thrills,
mystery and suspense.
It is one of the most colorful mys
tery stories ever screened.
The entire story of the picture re
volves upon "Silk Express" train car
rying a cargo of three million dollars'
worth of raw silk to New York In or
der to break a corner In allk that
has been effected by a group of un
scrupulous traders. These men re
sort to the most desperate attempts
to prevent the arrival of the silk ex
press. Constance Bennett, portraying Lorry
Evans In "Bed of Roses,'" is the other
half of the bill. It centers about
Miss Bennett gs!nt the colorful
and picturesque backgrounds of the
Mardl Ora carnival In New Orleans,
the Mississippi river, and a realistic
women's reformatory. Joel McCrea,
John Halllday, Pert Kelton and Sam
uel Hinds are featured in supporting
roles.

The grand Jury continued Its In
vestigations today In the "Dahack
case" with the calling of several out-of-town
witnesses, including Cy Herr,
former federal prohibition agent,
who participated in the raid on a
Reese creek still, after which Everett
Dahack of !J.-gle Point was found
dead. Two of the witnesses called
were arrested following the raid. A
number of residents of the Eagle
Point district were also heard.
The grand Jury Is expected to spend
th.e balance of this week hearing testi
mony, and studying the records of i
testimony In previous hearings. Two!
shots were admittedly fired, during j
the raid, and there were other shots
no one ever admitted firing, accord
ing to the records.
Judge H. D. Norton, who has been
holding court In Grants Pass the past
10 days. Is expected to be here Satur
day to receive the grand Jury report.

CKEHALIS. Jan. 30. (AP) Nor
man Bennett, 30, of Milwaukee, Ore.,
farmhand on the Roy Lewis ranch
across the river from Toledo, was shot
and killed today and Cowlita county
officers were searching for Lewis, who
disappeared after the shooting.
Deputies pursuing Lewis found a
message scrawled In the sand near
the J. S. Ryan ranch reading "Good
bye Letha and Denzll." The name
are those of Lewis' two young daughters.
