In a recent interview with church
officials, Roy E. Hay, district super
intendent of the Seventh Day Ad-
ventlat churches In southwestern Ore
gon, stated, "A steady advancement
has been made during the past year
In our churches in this district. The
tithe and offerings for November and
December were larger than a year
ago. There is also a very encourag
ing Increase In membership, making
It necessary and desirable to put on
a, building program at Ashland, Med
ford and Oranta Pass.
At Ashlnnd, under the leadership
of pastor Wm. Lewaadder, a sub tan-
tlal addition to the church building
la nearlng completion, while In Med
ford Improvements amounting to ap
proximately one thouaand dollars have
been made. And, aald Mr. Hay, "we
are nbt through yet as the Increase
In our membership from tha present
evangelistic effort makes it necessary
to give consideration to the enlarge
ment of our church building at the
corner of Edwards and Beatty streets,
in order to relieve the present crowded
condition.
The congregation at Oranta Pass
haa outgrown its present meeting
place and a new church la being
considered.
Three church schools, giving em-1
ployment to seven teachers for the
full term of nine months are being
operated In this district. Our Rogue
River Junior Academy, under the
leadership of Professor L. H. BooTh.
Is making a splendid record.
When asked about certain public
statements recently made by those
opposing the work of the Seventh Day
Adventists, Mr. Hay replied, "Any
man has a right to tell why he left '
the Seventh Day Adventlat church, 1
or any other church. No doubt such
a person would have some reason
which appealed to him, whether Bibli
cal or not, for ao doing. But we
should not forget that there are hun
dreds of other men and women In
Medford and vicinity who will ba glad
to tell why they are members of the
Seventh Day Adventlat church. They
will be glad to give you the chapter
and verse In the Bible commanding
the observance of the Sabbath, the
seventh day of tha week. Those who
observe Sunday are at a loss to find
jsuch a command for Sunday observ
ance."
