Higher prices for butter In Portland
recently were attracting considerable
upply from out-state points, with
local manufacturing also gaining as
a result of aprlng-llke weather con
ditions In contributing territory.
Further advance in the price on
butter during the late session of the
produce exchange, as well as a boost
for the too-low price on cheese, comes
as a result of general betterment In
the demand with a chief factor the
urgent desire of storage speculators
to boost so they can secure more
money for their storage goods.
The advance of lc In butterfat buy
ing prices follows the rise In butter,
but not the previous advance in the
butter market was absorbed by cream
ery Interests.
Trading In the egg market was
active here with most operators
maintaining prlcea, although out
siders were still reported as under
selling all comers.

T Lambs offered another sensation In
the Portland livestock alleys today as
dealers bid eagerly lor a run of 600
head and the price went to 67.50. the
highest quotation since May 26. 1931.
Yesterday's top was 17 24 and this
was an outside quotation.
Old mutton and yearllnia also went
higher In today's trading.

The North Pacific Emergency Export)
corporation today bid 77 centa a '
bushel for soft white wheat for for
elsn shipment. The last previous
quotation waa 75 cents, posted Janu
ary 5. The federal corporation is buy
ing wheat to relieve the Pacific north
west of a large surplus.

cil issued a license last night to Noel
Davis and D. E. Hartman for opera

On Telephone Work N. C. White,
assistant supervisor of the Rogue
River national forest, la spending to
day in the Butte Falsi and Trail ter
ritory, looking over the telephone
work underway there by the CCC
crews.
Honor Mr. Billings In respect to
the memory of G. F. Billings, Ashland
pioneer and father of County Com
missioner Ralph S. Billings, who died
yesterday, the regular session of th;
county court was postponed today,
until after the funeral rites.

Ravs Home from South Miss Do
lores Ray and her parents, Mr. and
Mrs. Frank H. Ray. have returned
from a vacation trip to Glendale,
Cal., where they visited relatives. Miss
Dolores saw the results of the deluge
that swept over southern Callfornlnfl
New Year's day, and waa much Im
pressed by the might of the rushing
waters, and the damage they Incurred.
She slept contentedly through the
storm, though within a short distance
of a dry creek that became a raging
torrent overnight. Mr. Ray says the
damage by the flood "has to be seen
to be appreciated," and that "a year's
rain feu in a day."

TO PLAY IN TOURNEY
Medfordites will play again thla
year In the Olympic bridge tourna
ment. It waa announced today by Mra.
Qua Newbury, who will sponsor the
local tournament.
It will be held at the Hotel Medford
February 1, with playing to begin at
8 o'clock. The winning handa will be
sent to New York for entry In world
competition. The tournament last
year waa much enjoyed here and a
similarly large attendance la antici
pated this year.
