BOUT NEXT JUNE
NEW YORK, Jan. 13. (AP) One
snappy Interview between Jack
Dempsey and Col. John Reed Kil
patrlck seemed to have changed the
entire heavyweight situation today
and left a strong probability of a
title meeting between Prlmo Car
nera and Max Baer In June.
After Col. Kllpatrick, president of
Madison Square Garden, had chatted
with Dempsey and Ancil Hoffman,
Baer's manage, it was Indicated that
the prospects of a Baer-Carnera bout
were not so dismal after all.
Colonel Kllpatrick seemed satisfied
that an arrangement could be made
even though Camera now Is tied up
with the Garden and Baer with
Dempsey.
It was regarded as extremely Im
probable that Dempsey would be
taken Into a Garden partnership In
order tp "make" the bout. Garden
officials regard that aa a bad prece
dent to set. i
Camera already U signed to defend
his title ' against Tommy Loughran
at Miami February 22 and Baer may
return to the ring shortly for one
winter appearance, perhaps against
Steve Hamas. The June battle, of
course, would hinge upon the out
come of these two matches.
NEW YORK, Jen. 13. Cleto
Locatelll, who was supposed to meet
Tony Can zone rl in -a return bout last
night, today had established himself
as a favorite to beat the former light
weight champion when they finally
do get together two weeks from now.
Canzonert, Injured In training, was
unable to fill the engagement so Cleto
filled in the time by administering
a thorough beating to Jackie Kid Berg
before a scanty crowd of 8,000 at
Madison Square garden.
Locatelll pasted him about almost
at will but failed to land the finish
ing punch and was booed occasion
ally for his failure.
