Tests Arrive The county school
superintendent's office announced this
morning that tests for the end of
the semester, prepared by the state
supervisory committee, have arrived
at the office, and those who ordered
the tests are requested to call for
them.
Lunch Stand Sold 6ale of "The
Ark," lunch stand at 634 South Sixth
street, by Miss Hazel Randolph to
Mrs. Mae Hatfield of Medford, was
announced Monday. Miss Peggy Mil
ler will remain In employment as

Flies Accident Report An accident
report has been placed on file with
the city police concerning a collision
on West Main street, January 7, at
7:1B a. m., between the cars driven
by E. M. Strong of route one, Med
ford, and W. H. Tanner of 1315 West
Main street.
Seeks Rhodonite George fl. Barton
of 33 North Grape street, today stated
he waa anxious to get In touch with
anyone who can furnish rhononlto in
carload lots, as he has had inquiry
from a responsible eastern concern.
Explanation of rhodonite will be given
those Interested, he stated.
Four Bicycles Recovered City police
this morning recovered four bicycles
which were stolen from local theaters
last night. They belonged to Joe Mc-
Ke of 628 v4 North Riverside avenue,
John Anderson and Henry Anderson
of 1005 South Peach street, and Sam
Richardson of 32 North Peach street.
Will Go to Hawaii Conway Latham,
son of Mr. and Mrs. P. C. Latham,
and Thoburn Giem, son of Mr. and
Mrs. Harry L. Glem, are leaving by
train this evening for San Francisco,
from which city they will sail Febru
ary 0 for Hawaii, having enlisted In
the United States army, with the
motor artillery.

poem contest conducted recently by
Rusa Broms of the Oregon Journal in
Portland. Music has been written

Injured in Accident Ralph Perry,
S55 B street, received a cut on his
face and two broken ribs when his
car skidded on the highway near
Jackson Hot Springs and turned over
Monday. Perry was- accompanied
toy a small boy who was uninjured.
Perry spent the day in the municipal
hospital but will return to hie home

to locate. Potter said he found the
gun about a fourth of a mile from
the railroad track In some willow

Webb Goes Home Chester Webb of
King's highway, who has been in the
hospital since October 11, was able
to return to his home today. Webb
suffered burns from a gasoline ex
plosion when he was en route to
Klamath Falls from Medford.
Fractures Ankle Lyle Hard, for
estry service employe at Camp Apple-
gate, was brought into Medford to the
Sacred Heart hospital this afternoon
with a double fracture of his right
ankle, as the result of a log rolling
on It. Hard had moved to save sev
eral other men, and the log Injured
his ankle.

subject of an Interesting address de
Hvered by R. C. G roes beck of Klamath
Falls before the Medford Rotary elub
today at the Hotel Medford. This!
much discussed and highly publicized I
subject was comprehensively covered!
by the speaker, who outlined the steps
in monetary management undertaken j
by President Roosevelt and his ad-'
ministration.
In commenting upon the Presi
dent's gold market, Mr. Groesbeck re
called the experience of the British
Empire when England went off the
gold standard. Briefly he described
the calling In of hoarded gold and
explained why various steps by the
federal government were taken. An
effort was made to eliminate gold
speculation and prevent the gold situ
ation In this country which followed
England's monetary move, the speaker
said.
Mr. Groesbeck then mentioned the
silver act of last December and out
lined the governments method of
purchasing newly mined sliver. This
move was a tremendous boost to west-!
ern mining, he said. !
The much talked of "commodity
dollar" was then discussed by the
Klamath Falls speaker, and diffi
culties of establishing a monetary
system based upon commodity prices
were described. "We must adjust
ourselves to many changes that are
now transpiring, as many of them are
here to stay," Mr. Groesbeck said In'
conclusion of his enlightening ad
dress. Lew Johnson of Tacoma extended a
cordial invitation to Rotarlans to at
tend the Rotary conference In his city

SECURE WATER WORKS
SALEM, Jan. 9. IP) Proceedings
were Instituted In circuit court here
today by the city of Salem to con
demn the plant and properties of the
Oregon-Washington Water Service
company, which furnishes water to
Salem. Salem voted 2,500,0OO worth
of bonds on December 15, 1931, to
acquire the water company's prop
erties or construct a new plant.
Spencer Tracy in Rialto Role
Tiie kidnapping racket has had
headlines in the country's newspapers
for the past several months, and
starting 'today the Rialto theater will
show "The Made Game,' an expose
of this low brand of racketeering.
Spencer Tracy plays the role of a
reformed racketeer, leading tho forces
