Dramatic Institute for Jacknon and
Jowphlne county lenders will open
thts evening at 7:30 o'clock In the
Jackson county courthouse, under
the supervision of Mrs. Mabel C,
MjlcJc, county home demonstration
a (rent. The Institute la carried
through the co-operation of Vie state
xtenalon service and the National
r lay round and Recreational suo-
clatlon of Amenta.
Jack etuart Knapp, staff member
of the National Playground and
creatlonai association, will be In
structor for. the school, the purpose
of which Is to train leaders from the
various county organ lsmtlons, Includ
ing granges, home extension units,
scout groups and churches,
Two leaders are enrolled from eaci
organisation una" they are trained to
direct dramatic and recreational fea
tures Jn these various groups.
This Is the third Institute to bo
conducted in Jackson county, and
the second to be Instructed by Mr.
Knapp. Many Jackson county lead
era have attended the other Insti
tutes and have been directing ac
tivltles In the various communities.
Fifty Jackson county leaders, and
13 from Josephine county .have en
rolled for the mstltute, which will
continue Vi rough - Thursday.

the screen, with Will Rogers as "Mr.
Ski ten," the character name and
title of the new Fox production which
opened yesterday at the Craterian
theater.
For outright entertainment, and
good, healthy laughs, "Mr. Bkltch
tops anything Rogers has done. It
Is hilarious entertainment. Always
at his best In a modern, topical and
timely picture ("Mr. Skttch" Is all of
that), Rogers has the typo of role
that let him loose with sallies or
wit, the kind that have made him a
national favorite as a humorist.
The story concerns a Missouri family-
that have lost all their savings in
a bank failure. Forced out of their
home, and their belongings taken
away from them, they set out In a
dilapidated car and make their way
westward. Hoping to start anew in
some other community, they migrate
from one auto camp to another. The
father of the family finally secures a
Job as waiter In a gambling casino
On the strength of a dollar tip, he
splurges, and wins 3000 at roulette.
The family starts off for home In
style. They suddenly discover that
the money was lost at the tourist
camp. Their search for the money
pro roe unsuccessful, and they are once
again penniless. They meet a newly
married couple, whose acquaintance
they've marie at the auto camp. Be
cause of the bride's ability to Imper
sonate famous movie stars, they all
decide to go to Hollywood to capi
talize on her talents. This liut se
quence brings the film to an uproar
ious conclusion.
In support of Will Rogers. Zaau
Puts, who Is a star comedienne in
her own right, heads the cast, and
gives a flawlPMi performance.

ing; Clyde Barrow, Texas gunman
accused of half a dozen murders, and
Ed Davis, Kansas robber and the only
one of the 11 escaping convicts from
the Kansas prison last Memorial vday
to thwart capture or death.
Jackson county, through the dls
trlct attorney's office, has officlnlly
notified Harney county that It will
provide no funds for the care of C.
Jean Conner, paroled for his con
fessed part in the vote-stealing of
last February.
Conner applied to the Harney coun
ty welfare agent for relief for himself,
his bride, his mother-in-law and
alster-ln-law. Harney county claimed
Conner and family had not been
there a sufficient length of time to
come under relief provisions, and held
the family was a charge of Jackson
county.
Conner was married at Bend, Ore.,
December 3 last, without knowledge
or consent of his parole patron. At
torney H. Von Schmala of Burns, who
says the wife "Is several years Con
ner's senior." The nuptlsls are a vio
lation of the parole. Von Schmalz
withdrew ' his recommendation for a
pardon. Future action In the caao
reats with Circuit Judge O. F. Skip-
worth of Eugene, the paroling judge.

WASHINGTON. Jan. 8. (AP) An
order of the federal trade commission
prohibiting the Algoma and eleven
other lumber companies from selling
Ponderosa pine as "California white
pine" In Interstate commerce was
sustained today by the supreme
court.
BERLIN, Jan. 8. (AP) One hun
dred pastors who protested from their
pulpits Sunday against the suppres
sive decree Issued by Relchablshop
Ludwlg Mueller may face suspension
for Insubordination, It was believed
today.
Led by the Rev. Martin Nlemoeller,
head of the opposition to the relcha
blshop and his nazl church regime,
the pastors read from a statement
distributed by the Insurgent ministers
of the emergency federation.
After the meeting, at which Dr. Nle
moeller spoke, police broke up a
throng of 1000 German Sunday school
boys as they left the church. The
youths attempted to parade, but were
dlapersed.
