CABINET IS HINT
PARIS, Jan. 6. (AP) Parliamen
tary circles predicted today Premier
Camllle Chautemps, and his cabinet
might be overthrown when parlia
ment airs the $40,000,000 scandal of
the Bayonne pawnshop.
The government sent out a second
series of messages to ships at sea and
to French representatives In North
and South America In an effort to
arrest Serge "Handsome Alex" Sta
vlsky, founder of the collapsed Muni
cipal enterprise which received gov
ernment financing.
Premier Chau temps called Albert
Dallmter, minister of colonies, to his
' office at noon and demanded a clear
'statement of hts connection with the
Stavlsky affair of which the minister
asserts he is entirely Innocent despite
rumors,
In parliamentary circles, which
until a few days ago had conceded
the present government several
months of life, It was said the cabi
net's danger Is real.
The police said Dallmter had sent
out letters urging Insurance compan
ies to Invest In pawnshop bonds with
out, however, specifying the Bayonne
organization Oppositionists to the
government Immediately commented
on the sale of alleged bogus bonds for
hundreds of millions of francs and
pointed out that Stavlsky, who had a
police record and already faced other
charges, had hobnobbed with mem
bers of the government.
