districts of Jackson county have been
compiled by the assessor's office.
Howard district has the highest
mlllage at 43.4 mills, which Includes
7.4 mills assessed !or water bonds.
Other leaders are Dewey with 40 mills.
Derby with 85.1 mills; Sams Valley
with 34.8 mills: Sterling, 30.7 mills;
Reese Creek, 39.9 mills; Evans Valley,
30.3 mills; Little Butte, 31.6 mills;
Plnchurst, 34.9 mr.ls and Shady Cove.

FARLEY ASSURES
PARIS ON DOLLAR
PARIS, Dec. 12. (JP) James A. Par
ley, United State postmaster-general,
here on a vacation, reassured Amer
ican business men In Paris today that
the dollar was sound, and praised
President Roosevelt's handling of the
monetary situation.
"I had a, big surprise," he said,
"when I found that the dollar did
not get me as much as I thought it
would.
"However, I am not disturbed."
The postmaster-general said Roose
velt "knows much more about what
his critics have In mind than they
know what he has In his mind."
The members of the American club,
who entertained him at luncheon,
were Introduced to him as "the most
forgotten man in Christendom" on
account of the fall of the dollar In
relation to the French franc.
FIVE ESCAPE DEATH
IN KLAMATH WATERS

their motor boat was punctured by

COLORFUL RENO MAYOR
DIES OF STOMACH ILL
RENO, Nev., Dec. 13. (UP) E. E.
Roberts, liberal mayor of Reno for
the past ten years, died here yester
day after a long illness. He would
have been 63 tomorrow. A stomach
ailment hastened his death.
Mayor Roberts led the movement
to make Reno the most liberal city
In the prohibition era of the United
States.

SEATTLE, Dec. 13. yp) Three
hours after a phoned warning had
been received, a. bomb exploded on
the roof of the Quail tee Dairy plant
near the city's business district last
night, with a terrific noise.
The detonation was heard over
wide area, but little actual damage
was done to the plant. A hole a foot
In diameter was torn through the roof.
The warning was phoned to S. P.
Paysse, Jr., one of the owners. Earlier

a call ordering the dairy to raise its
prices before last Saturday night,

Definite confirmation of the govern,
merits plan to purchase liberal sup
plies of eggs for relief purposes was
received here today by George C.
Keaney, general manager of the Pa
cific Poultry Producers association.
A message to Keaney from the as
sociation's New York office said the
federal relief corporation Is setting
aside 225.000.000 with which to pur
chaw storage eggs. The purchases
will be allotted to the several states
according to surplus, and with a view
of the unemployment problems of
each.
Keaney said he was advised pur
chasea will be made by the state ad
ministrators after consultation with
a representative of the state agricul
tural college and the state depart
ment of agriculture.

SHIPMENTS REPORTED
PORTLAND, Ore., Dec. 13. (AP)
More than 37.603.000 pounds of
prunes have been shipped from Port
land by water this year. During
November the volume amounted to
0,326,307 pounds.
Germany took $5,815,133 pounds,
valued at $360,048, last month. The
United Kingdom was the second best
customer, taking 1820,340 pounds,
worth $01,333. Poland received 716,
435 pounds, valued at $35,343.

sicians today as resting comfortably

the most painful stage of his Injury.
But after an examination of the In
terior secretary this morning, the doc
tor attending him said:
"He'll have to stay In bed for at
least a week or ten days. No, he
can't even think of doing any work
In bed for some days yet."
At Walter Reed hospital, where the
secretary of war Is recovering from an
eye infeotoln, the army doctors le
ported: "He's doing very well. Both eyes
are slightly Infected and that will
necessitate rest. While fairly com
fortable, his recovery would be re
tarded If he thought of doing any
work for several days yet."
