tand to meet with the committee
to lend aid In bringing out a com
pleted bill. It waa Indicated ft Rales
tax bill would be placed on the floor
today lor action tomorrow.
Knox Plan Revamped
In the senate the alcoholic con
trol committee was continuing Its
work on the Knox control-bill, add
ing many amendments. Among those
added today were provisions for a
salaried commission and that at least
one woman be placed on the com
mission. The bill with the amend
ments will be up for debate In the
senate tomorrow and the house again
would be cailed upon to either accept
or reject the amendments with pros
pects the bill would go into confer
ence committee.
The senate by a vote of 15 to 15
defeated the Orange power bill which
would create an elective power com
mission to handle the power particu
larly to be produced by the Bonne
ville dam project. The Grange meas
ure differed from the power commis
sion set up as recommended by the
governor In house measures, by de
ferring the creation of the commis
sion until after the May primaries In
order to avoid appointment of tho
three by the governor. The Grange
bill as voted upon did not carry a
bond issue authorization.
Sales Tax Discussed
Debate on the sales tax as expected
to be brought Into the house to pro
vide school relief was current at the
state house and In the "third house
lobby." Representatives of the cities
of the state as listed under the
League of Oregon Cities, will meet
.here tonight to voice Its stand .mi
the proposed sales tax. What action
would be taken was not predicted
but a poll of the representatives was
Indicated.
Charles A. Howard, superintendent
of schools, stated to the press today
he favored a sales tax only because
It was the lone solution to aid pub
lic schools.

BROADCASTING CALL
FOR CLOTHING, TOYS
Winter time la here. The season
when each person wants to look ner
best, when even the furry friends of
the forest don new coats for the holi
days, which this year will find many
Medford people with very few pennies
with which to purchase. That la why
the Welfare Exchange la Issuing
call for clothing of all kinds.
Toys and odds and ends, suitable
for Christmas gifts, are also wanted.
Miss Helen Carlton, chairman of the
exchange, stated yesterday. There are
many things In many homca which
would make delightful Christmas gifts
for others, although they are not fill
ing an important need, where now lo
cated. If brought to the exchange
they would enable many families to
keep faith In Santa Claus.
Pieces for patch work quilts are
also wanted at the exchange and the
loan of a sewing machine would fill
a very Important need at this time.
Anyone, who has a tread sewing
machine available. Is asked to get In
touch with the exchange In the city
hall at once.
The Welfare Exchange Is the only
group organized In the state of Ore
gon to provide work for women In the
manner carried on here, It has been
revealed by surveys made In the
granting of federal funds. The splen
did work carried on by the exchange
here la bringing still greater results
this year than last, when It filled
necessary place In the relief program.
