CHICAGO, Nov. 38. (UP) Millions
of American housewives this week
will ask themselves th question:
"What shsll I have for Thanksgiving
dinner?'"
Th answer, stoutly advocated by
Jacob Kohler, Internationally famous
chef. Is:
"American foods, cooked la Amer
ican style and served In tbe American
way."
Any American housewife who offers
her fsmtly anything except th na
tive cuisine on th day devoted to
thanksgiving for the good things pro
duced by America Is "guilty," says
Kohler, .of "no patriotism, no sense
of the appropriate and worst of sll
no appreciation of the best etyle
of preparing foods that the world has
found.
C. 8. Women Best Cooks.
There Is," proclaimed the chef, as
he dashed about th steaming kit
chen of the large Mlohlgan boulevard
restaurant over which he presides,
"no better cooking in the world than
the American woman has developed.
"A Parisian rhef msy cspture cer
tain palates with his ssuces and dress
ing, but the apex of cooking 1 reach
ed when the cook learns to achieve
the same result by developing nat
ural flavors."
Deriding the contention thst any
question of "culture", or superior
taste Is Involved In a dispute over!
the eating habits of two races, Kohler
declared that ham and eggs, or steak
end potatoes are th appropriate
staples of a race prodigal Of enegry
and active In sports.
French Cooking, Rah!
"Let the French have French cook
ing and French foods," said Kohler.
"but for me, let m hav a broiled
tenderloin In Its own Juices."
Elaborating hti statement that na
tive food producte should have first
plsce on Thanksgiving day tables,
Kohler pointed to a model holiday
menu hanging In his kitchen. It
stsrted th meal with a fruit oock
tall and Included a simple salad;
roast turkey, with ssg dressing, cran
berry aauce, succotash prepared with
green lima beans, corn and peas, warm
ngnc roils and cones.
"And," said Kohler, "If you must
serve a drink, make It a highball be
fore dinner. That'a American, and
there's no reason to bs ashsmed of
It. If a highball is what you like,
then asuterns and moselle ar In
ferior products."

Why the Sudden
Change to Liquid
Laxatives?
Doctors have always recognized the
value of the laxative whose dose can
be measured, and whose action can
be controlled.
The public, too, is fast, returning
to the use of liquid laxatives. People
have learned that a properly pre
pared liquid laxative brings a perfect
movement without any discomfort
at the time, or after.
The dose of a liquid laxative can
be varied to suit the needs of the
individual. The action can thus be
regulated. It forms no habit; you
need not take a "double dose" a dav
or two later. Nor will a mild liquid
laxative irritate tbe kidneys.
The wrong cathartic mag keep yoi
constipated as long as you keep or.
using u.
Dr. Caldwell's Svrun Perjgin is s
prescription, and is perfectly safe.
Its laxative action is based on senna
a natural laxative. The bowels will
not become dependent on this form
of help. Dr. Caldwell's Syrup Pepsin
is at all druggists. Member N. R. A.
