Legislation of high Interest to Jack
son county, vu recommended to the
special session of th legislature. In
t& Portland contention of county
Jixla, commissioners, and county
clerks, aocordlziff to Cominlsstciriera
Ralph s. BUllusi and B. T Nealon
srho returned this morning.
The foremost changes and action
recrjmmended were:
But aid to pull the public school
system out of the financial moraM;
Increase of tea delinquency rate on
tana, with Interest reduction and
bonus for prompt and early payment:
Construction of the liquor control
Isrsr, so thst 75 per cent of the re
ceipts go to tb county, and 3S per
cent to to state:
Pension Law Change Need
Revamping of the Old A3 Pension
le-sr. Increasing the length of resi
dence and exemptions, and delaying
nforoament until counttea ar finan
cially better abl to comply:
Return of tb cost of th car on
non-violent tnsan patlenta to the
Stat. Instead of the counties, as now.
Trie county clerks recommended
tb repeal of the socalled "gin mar
riage law-
Cottnty Judge Earl B. Day remained
In Portland to attend a meeting of
tb Stat highway commission to con
sider ways and means for th distri
bution of th federal-stats highway
and road funds. Tb ob)ect of this
fund is to teuuwe as many as poaslbl
from th chanty rolls.
County ofnclala, figured that In
crease of th delinquency rst would
spur tax payments, among three who
can but wont, and who think that
th rat will be decreased or abolish
ed. Liquor Control Plan
Tb Jackson county suggestion thst
. person convicted of a Halation of
th prohibition laws b barred from
liquor selling will b embodied In th
liquor control messur.
- Return of th car of th non
violent Insane to th state, would re
lieve Jackson county of a large ex
pans Item. Tb transfer of th cost
to th county was expected to place
the main bur-ten on kin. This bss
not been th case, few being abl or
willing to ssTim It.
Repeal of th "gin marriage law"
would also help. It has resulted In
many California couples getting their
wedding license at bom. Befor the
lsw went Into effect there waa a fair
ly steady stream of lovers from the
south, coming her for licenses. Th
pest year there has been a steady de
cline In out of state victims of Cupid.
The records of th clrk'( offlc show
tb decline. In most cases th wed
ding ring, breakfast, dresses, and hats
were purchased here, and local
preachers tied th knots, st th regu
lar rat. Jackson county was former
ly a Mecca for California swains and
lad lea.
Tb Old Age Pension law changes
are urged, so thst It can be observed.
Jackson county, with a beary drain
on its coin, due to the county com
missary and th Banks-Pehl lawless
ness, has been unable to meet the
law. It was estimated that (he Old
Age pensions would cost Jsckson
county (160,000 per year.
