Rector of Denver, Colo., brother of
Mrs. L. V. Watklns of this city, pass
ed away Monday at his Denver liome.
Mr. Rector is known here, having vis
ited Mr. and Mrs. Watklns In the past
two years.
Bible Class to Meet The Women's
Bible class of the First M. E. church
will meet with Mrs. Carder, 807 West
Eighth street, Thursday afternoon at
2 o'clock. Each member Is asked to

Meekers Return Mr. and Mrs. C. A.
Meeker returned Monday evening on
the Shasta from Portlsnd where they
spent the past two days. While in the
city they attended the Portland Sym
phony orchestra concert at the audi
torium. Revival Meet lugs Revival meetings
will be held by the Apostolic Faith
of Medford, Wednesday, Thursday and
Friday evenings of this week, It was
announced today, each meeting be
ginning at 7:45 o'clock in the Hlb
bard store building at Talent. An
invitation Is extended all Interested
persons. There will be no collection.
Club Opened Here The "Bohemian
club," specializing in beer and sand
wiches, was opened this week at 10
South Fir street, under the manage
ment of E. F. Hayes, who came here
two weeks ago from Eugene. Mr.
Hayes Is well acquainted with tne
Rogue River valley, having resided
here first in 1901. His family expects
to Join him in Medford soon.
Grand Guardian to Visit Grand
Guardian Minnie Hlner Is in this city
today to pay her official visit to
Neighbors of Woodcraft of Jackson
county. She will be greeted by
Chrysanthemum circle No. 84, Med
ford; Oak circle of Phoenix, and
Acorn circle of Ashland at an enter
tainment here this evening. A din
ner will be served at 6:30 o'clock in
the I. O. O. F. hall and members of
Chrysanthemum circle are asked to
bring hot dishes. Grand Manager
Hawkins will also be present.
Thanksgiving Boxes Each year the
Daughters of the Nile fill Thanks
giving boxes for the crippled children
in the Shrine hospital In Portland
and the time is now arriving for this
year's work, Mrs. Chas. L. Wood an
nounced this morning. Committees
have been appointed la Ashland.
Grants Pass and Medford and the
local one Is composed of Mrs. Chas.
L. Woods, Mrs. J. A. Perry, Mrs. C. E.
Gates and Mrs. W. E.' Hlttson. The
boxes must be packed by Monday,
November 27, and donations will be
received at the home of Mrs. woods.',
103 Genesee street. Those who are I
unable to bring contributions, are!
asked to telephone Mrs. Woods, 1640,
and a car will call for them.
Praise Bus Travel Mrs. Susan D.
Nason and daughter Margaret have
returned to their home on the Old
Stage road at the completion of a
7,000-mile journey by bus, which took
them to many parts of the United
States. They were enthusiastic in
their praise today of the means of
transportation chosen, stating that
"It's a grand way to travel, when
you spend the nights at hotels." They
went east via the northern route and
returned through the south, viewing
much scenery each way and spending
two months on the road. They visit
ed the world's fair in Chicago and
friends In Cleveland and Denver. On
the return trip they stopped at the
Grand Canyon and spent some time
In Los Angeles and San Francisco.
Fast Truck Line
Perimt Revoked
SALEM, Nov. IB. (AP) The com
mon carrier permit of the McCracken
Fast Freight line, operated by" Robert
McCracken, was revoked today by the
public utilities commissioner.
Constant violation of tariff rates
and charges, and rules and regula
tions were given by the commissioner
as ressons for revoking the permit.
Samuel Chlsholm, resident of Jack
son county for the past 16 years and
late of Gold Hill, passed away at a
local hospital erly this morning at
the af of 6fJ . .
Mr. Chlsholm sustained Injuries
two weeks ago from which he failed
to recover. He was born at Corpus
Chrtstl, Texas and during his resi
dence here, has resided in various
parts of the county.
Besides his wife, Lulu Chlsholm, he
leaves one daughter, Josephine Rob
btns of Gold HU1 and two sons, Sam
uel Jr., and Edwin Chlsholm of Oak
land, Calif, Also three sisters In New
Mexico.
Funeral arrangements will be an
nounced by Conner Funeral Parlors
upon arrival of the sons.
Two Comedians In
Craterian Film
"Olsen's Big Moment," featuring El
Brendel, plays tomorrow only at the
Craterian theater. Walter Catlett,
who Is a star comedian in his own
right, has the principal supporting
role. With two such comedians play
ing in one picture, "Olsen's Big Mo
ment" promises to be an uproarious
laugh riot.
The story concerns Itself with an
apartment house Janitor who becomes
involved In a romance between a
beautiful girl and a wealthy bache
lor. The Janitor's efforts to patch up
the romance force him Into a series
of complications full of adventure.
On the stage tomorrow night,
"Skipper" Don Mills with his mate,
Bosco, will be on hand to handle
the finals of the Opportunity Con
test. Twelve contestanta will vie for
the chance of going to Portland and
an audition over KEX. There will
be three chosen for'thla trip, one of
the three will be chosen to return
to Portland for the state finals to
be held on the stage of the Broadway
theater next month, when contestants
from over 40 Oregon cities will be
on hand. It is hoped that the final
prize winner will be a Medford boy
or girl, who will find this a chance
to break Into a starring role In
movies, stage or radio.

Lee Hughes, who formerly lived In
Medford, has returned to this city
and he announced today that his of
fice will be located at the K. D. Ross
company, 22 South Grape street. Mi.
Hughes says he- will specialize in
paperhanging. He la also a painter
and decorator. He will operate under
NRA regulations.

NEW YORK, Nov. 15 (AP) The
regular quarterly dividend of 2.25 a
share on the capital stock of the
American Telephone & Telegraph Co.
was ordered by the directors today.
The dividend disbursement totals
around (42.000.000, but of this
amount about $2,000,000 will be de
ducted by the company for payment
to the government as the tax
corporation dividends. This tax.
which will be automatically rescinded
with formal repeal of the prohibition
amendment on Dec. 0,' Is collected
from Individual stockholders, corporation-owning
shareholders being ex
empt because of their general tax lia
bilities.
The dividend Is payable Jan, 15 to
stock of record Dec. 15,

record that stood for 50 years was
shattered today when the temperature
dropped to 23 degrees above zero at
7 a. m.
The figure was two degrees below
the mark for 1883, heretofore the
coldest November 15th on record. The
normal average temperature for the
date Is 44 degrees.
