Mead Fined Newton Mead, charg
ed with selling an automobile with
out motor number was tfllten Into
Justice court Friday afternoon and
fined 10 and costs of 4.50. A satis
factory settlement, concerning the
ear, was also made.
Reports Collision Irvln P. Nelson
of company 1S55. CCC camp at Evans
creek filed an accident report with
the city police concernlns a collision
on the Midway road about a mile
uorth of Medford Thursday evening
at 5:30 o'clock. According to Nelson's
report, a man named Traxler was
driving the other car, stopped on the
highway, then backed Into the truck,
which could not move because of ap
proaching cars. Two witnesses with
Traxler refused to give their names.
Nelson stated. S. H. Bonbrosky. Earl
Scott and J. Barnes were listed by
Nelson as witnesses. They were in the
CCC truck with him.

Mrs. Ptnjt Recorered Mrs. James
Ping of Palm street returned to her
home Friday from the Sacred Heart
hospital, where she was 111 for some
time with an Infection. Her condi
tion was much improved.
Run Delayed The long expected
run of silverslde salmon has not yet
reached this section or the Rogue
river, according to reports reaching
Joe Wharton, local sports guide. Dur
ing the recent rise In the river a
small run was seen passing over the
Savage Rapids dam, but only a few
were taken, according to the Grants
Pass Courier. As usual at this season
of the year, the trout caucht are In
excellent condition and average fair
ly large in size. Fly-fishing for steel-
heads has been slow on most parts
of the river and most steelheads taken
have been caught with spinner or
baft. Most of the steelheads caught
in waters near town show indications
fo having been in fresh water for
some time, say the local fishermen.

panied by his mother from that city.
He is now a patient at the Provi
dence hospital in the Washington

Strikes Dnvl Car Mrs. J. T. Davis
of 1112 East Main street reported to
the city police that as she was mak
ing a right hand turn into he drive
way at her residence, S. T. Hunt., of
2229 Aloah street tried to go between
her car and the curb, damaging the
Davis car.

they will visit relatives. They attend

In a brief opinion given late yes-
terday, Superior Judge J. P. Sproul j
declared the verdict was so grossly :
excessive and unreasonable as to In
dicate the Jurors hsd been swayed by
passion and prejudice.
"Under the circumstances dis
closed In the record In this case."
read the court's opinion. "I am con
strained to hold that the verdict In
the aum ot $75,000 was so excessive
and unreasonable as to raise a pre
sumption of prejudice and passion."
The Judge stated also that new evi
dence had been discovered by the
defendant In the suit and declared
that "the ends of Justice would best
be served by granting a new trial."
