County and State Police Plan
Steps to Curb Roadhouse

The district attorney, sheriff and

Trouble Follows,
Young boys and glrla have been
frequenting the reeorte the past two
or three months, with a numner or
distressing cases arising h ft result,
officials say. Complaints have been
filed against the roadhouses by par
ents recently.
The state police and aheriff's office
have been watching the "hot epote"
th) paat month, and their Inveatlga
tlona ehow that youth flocks to' them
under the guise of "slumming," and
go In groupa. Several questioned ad
mitted "their mothers did not know
they were out," or "their folks
thought they were at the movies, or a
house party."
It also developed that youth comes
liome from the roadhouses too fast,
and that the "bathtub gin" and gaso
line fall to mix. '
Some Caution Patrons.
: The authorities stste that since the
fatal auto accident at Stewart ave
nue and Kings highway, a month ago,
most of the roadhouse proprietors
have cautioned patrona to "be care
ful, and use their hesds, or Oregon
will be dry In two years." Some of
the plaoea have "ohased minora
away when they called." Othera have
not been able to lose sight of their
eaah reglaters, and take the coins of
all comers.

Recommendations to the legisla

considered. Upstate countlea, con
fronted with the same problem, favor
exorbitant license fees, police super-i

violation.
"The law provides a way to take

Authorities estimate there are be

kind and another, operating In the
county. Some law olalma to preten

are "holea-ln-the-wall," where "home
brew" and "moonshine" are sold, and
for th most part are of a low grade.

Ye Poet's Cornei
Autumn Leaves.
(By Mary O. Carey)
As I sauntered down the pathway,
On a lovely autumn day.
1 saw a leaf all golden
Let loose and fly away.
I'. left Its hrlght companions
That fluttered In the aun,
And aremed to gently aay:
"My ahort, eweet life Is done.
Farewell, my dear companion.
All clothed In colore bright,
2 grieve to have to leave you:
And take my downward flight."
And aa I aaw the leaflet fall,
To earth to fade and die.
The thought of mortals falling
In death aeemed then to cry.
Each soul la Just on more leaf,
Palling In autumn blast.
One more race la run:
Death claims them all at last.
